Re: New highway code rules, giving way to cyclists
They were discussing this on radio Shropshire this morning. Mixed opinions in cycling group's. It's all about making it safer, I can see it leading to some nasty accidents, unless they can buy some common sense from somewhere.

Re: New highway code rules, giving way to cyclists
It does rely on people not being self centred pricks so that's doomed. I'm glad I'm not a cyclist. It's dangerous enough walking the dog when there are no paths.

It won't change how i ride when the rare times happen that i find myself on the road, i always err on the side of caution, especially at junctions.

If you're stupid enough to do stupid things, including trying to overtake vehicles on a roundabout (on either side) on your pushbike and not expect to have to take avoiding action at some point in your cycling career you deserve all you get.

Re: New highway code rules, giving way to cyclists
I hope that it does make things better for cyclists as I regularly see cars skipping past a bike really closely and cutting back in to avoid the car coming round the corner. Genuinely frightening.

You lot, honestly...
I suppose you don't read the motorcycle press either. It was on Visordown at the end of July last year, MoreBikes covered it on their website a few days later in early August.
And Motorcycle News published a series of articles going back to 30 July 2021!

Nope, don't read them. I do look at MCN but only to find articles for here. The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 6:03 pm You lot, honestly...

Re: New highway code rules, giving way to cyclists
Close overtakes are my main bugbear, especially on blind bends where if a car comes they only have 1 option which is to put me in the hedge. One day I see it happening.
With where I live, the rules won't matter as we're never at the type of scenarios this covers. We basically only see a road because it links up 2 trails.

MB, never heard of it
MCN, no, I stocked up on bog roll before xmas so have no need
There was nothing on American-V or any of there social media.
So now what, we're back to most motorists not having a clue about the changes and they go live in a under a week.
I suppose we'll all just crack on as normal then, but I predict much agro come spring / summer when the local cycle clubs start time trialling, they're a pain in the arse the best of times but they'll think they've got carte blanche now if they get wind of the changes.

During the racing season I may buy MCN about 3 times a year, but only for the sport pages.
It had never occurred to me to look at Visordown,is it any good? Is Morebikes,I've never heard of.

I cannot for the life of me imagine why you a Spin would see more road safety things online than most people. Not a clue.

And just for information it doesn’t apply in Northern Ireland (yet), different laws, different Highway Code

It was on the BBC news at 6 tonight. Informing the most vulnerable they have right of way.

When I read the changes in the link it makes sense, when I look at interpetations in the media it's confusing rubbish.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:35 pm All the changes (i think it's up to date) in black n white direct from nanny;

Ah, good old "Right of Way".
Doesn't actually exist in traffic law AFAIK (not in the way you think at least), but plenty of people think they have it.

There's a reasonably balanced summation in the Guardian...

Compared with the drivel in the Times, Mail, Express, Sun etc..
