Oxfordshire changed all of Oxfordshire to 50 limit about 8 years go. That really was pointless.

Most of Holland is the same when you leave built up areas what seems to work well. Round my way folk are just driving at 50 anyway so if it was all to be reduced i doubt anyone would care much.

I live in Locksbottom, the start of the May Day run down the A21 to Hastings. I did it once years back and swore never again. The level of stupidity and endangerment to lives, both of the idiots themselves, the people simply taking part in the run and those who just happened to be there, was staggering. I understand that the route is now very heavily policed on run.

Bikers are our our own worse enemy sometimes, yet first to moan and play the victim card.

When we moved to the Eastbourne area we did the May Day thing to Hastings...........once. The standard of riding was horrific.

Well apart from the average speed cameras. Having said that i was down Sittingbourne Area last year to collect the wifes car and passed at few sitting at 80 and yet to get a ticket. Car was put in my name the day before so i dont think they run all the time either

I've never understood the noisy pipe mentality,I've had Microns on my 2 strokes back in my teenage years & aftermarket pipes on my 4 strokes over the decades,but I was more concerned with getting more power out of the bike & losing weight,definitley not making more noise.If your 'riding enthusiastically' why do you want to announce your presence to the Police? Round here on a sunny Sunday afternoon it sounds like the slowest practice session ever at Oulton Park,God knows what it sounds like up the road from the bike meet hot spots.This is what happens when a few selfish idiots spoil it for the rest of us.
I remember listening to a blog the other year were they discussed the new noise level rules in the Tyrol.The Austrian rider commented that the politicians hadn't thought it through as the new limits were so low that the police couldn't use their Ducati's as they were over the noise limit.
Now I'll get fined if I ride my standard Street Triple,amongst other standard bikes in the Tyrol

I grew up watching bike racing, pre 65 scrambles, MX racing etc so always new bikes as noisy things, ergo I like to hear a bike's exhaust note. But nowadays I prefer something louder than standard, but not a straight through type race can.

Riding in London, with its hordes of cyclists, its pretty fair to say, loud pipes save cyclist lives!

I too did the May Day run once and didn't enjoy a single thing about it. I heard a statistic that more bikes go to the May Day run than the IOM TT and I believe it.

As for average speed cameras on the A272, yes that's a shame but as the road has been so heavily policed for years, inc. a police copter scouting it on sunny Sundays I am already used to avoiding it.

Having ridden it many, many times as a courier I never 'got' the A272 as a ride out route. It's interspersed with villages and always busy with traffic including slow trucks and buses, and even when you do reach a clear bit, it doesn't really challenge you to ride well. Plus since it became popular, I had to start dodging the IAM riders riding on the centre line in left-handers and the haven't-a-clues cornering on the centre line on right handers.

The A264 between Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead was much more fun.

You can always try to outrun the police helicopter if you get bored.

Last time I used the A272 it was almost 100% double solid white lines, with plenty of slow drivers to go with it. So I don't see average speed cameras spoiling much fun there.

That's another I know very well, some lovely stretches on that road. The Camber bends are a challenge too. But both roads best avoided on summer weekends.
