Mid teens on my brothers greaves 250 & promptly rode into a tree, also remember riding a puch maxi with mates maybe earlier up and down farm tracks in deepest Norfolk. 18yo for my first learner legal bike though.

Used to have a big 5 acre garden (benefits of dad being a vicar) that my brothers & some of the pupils at a local school used to hoon round the perimeter on bantams & scooters, sadly left there before I was old enough to partake ๐Ÿ™

About 12,on an NSU Quickly belonging to a school pal. I was 17 before I could afford my own bike,a Suzuki T250 Hustler.

I just realised it's 50 years this year since I began riding on the road.

This August/September I'll have been riding bikes for 40 years...... I still don't think I'm more than about 25 years old most of the time (but my body disagrees :( ).

15 or 16 on mates AE50, nearly put it through someone's garden wall. Only having ridden push bikes left hand was instinctively back brake to slow things down, it didn't.

Same bike was bought by another friend who had a field so used to ride it round that a fair bit and that got me hooked. Had to wait until I'd moved out as a very anti bike household.

6, we were lucky that our grandparents lived on an old farm with loads of land. We had a succession of field bikes and monkey bikes :)
I was prob 9 or 10 here, the reality is I've been riding for 47 years......

17. As a 16 year old I had been pillion a few times (and quite enjoyed it) but the driving force was transport. My work was about 13 miles away from where I lived, there was no public transport, and after a year I was getting pissed off with cycling. I couldn't drive, and couldn't afford a car anyway, so the obvious solution was a motorbike.

That solved one problem, but not the cold/wet one, so it was swapped in for a car ASAP, but I never forgot the freedom a bike offered, and 38 years later I bought another one. That was about 20 years ago, and since then I have ridden a bike as far north as arctic Norway, and as far south as Italy.

Paid ยฃ9.
Unblocked exhaust, cleaned up chain, used and abused for 3 months, including sending me through the lounge window* (from the garden) when I braked too late, and then sold for ยฃ54.

Age 16, after having repaired the Honda C200 I bought for ยฃ9. I'm now into my 56th year of motorcycling (although I haven't yet been on 2 wheels in 2022).

10 or 11 - on an ungeared motocross sort of bike around a roped of track in the middle of Chester race course in race week sometime in 1978 or thereabouts. Incredible. The deceleration was almost as addictive as the acceleration iygwim. I was barely ever off push bikes as it was, so the idea of something that didn't need pedalling seemed fantastic. And in fact was.

Point of order Mr Yorick

That flappit wasnโ€™t in Bradford. It was on the outskirts of Denholme on rough moorland.๐Ÿ˜œ

For a update, a guy got killed on a quad bike there around 10 years ago. The council then double yellow lined the whole road both sides.

Very rare you see a bike there these days. Itโ€™s been bought out and is back to being used as a quarry. Massive chunks of stone preventing access.

A few riders riding like dickheads who spoilt it for all.

Back on topic......I lived on a farm and around aged 11 I had a billy bantam which I ragged to death.

Aged 18 in 1973 I bought a brand new Suzuki 250GT for ยฃ399 from cable motors in Halifax. Reg TJX 933L

It was a right fanny magnet cos it had RAMAIR cooling and a disc brake on the front wheel

Happy days ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜ณ

Point of order 2 ;)

Denholme is a town and civil parish in the Bradford Metropolitan Borough, West Yorkshire, England. Administratively, it is part of the Bingley Rural ward of the City of Bradford.

You are correct. However....Denholme is still considered to be a village as is Cullingworth.

Skipton is in North Yorkshire but has a Bradford postcode. A West Yorkshire postcode. How does that work out?

Come back to live on Leeds rd for a few years and we can discuss this subject in depth
