The conversation just went like this
“Do you think it’s a good idea taking the day out of school”
“I bunked off loads and I’m doing ok for myself”
“Muppet. Do whatever you think is best”
That’s a yes isn’t it?

Re: MTB Racing 2022. Game time, lets get going
This could be tough lol.
It depends how it's played, for example they're doing 'reds' they say. So run 1 may be AC-DC which takes you to the fire road, so you've done 1 climb.... then stage 2 may be surfing bird, so you're still only on 1 climb but now at the bottom and needing to go up.... but they could do that as bottom half of vicious valley, so you've only done 1.5 ups and completed the stages required.

They ran it there in 2018 too.
So that looks like Hot Stepper, Root Manouvers, vicious valley.
I'm OK with that mostly.... ish.

Re: MTB Racing 2022. Game time, lets get going
Race day this coming weekend for the boy.
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... ruary-2022
100% mini downhill at Forest of Dean. Apparently taking in Ski-run, which is a trail he knows reasonably well. But we're heading there on Friday anyway just to make sure and do 3-4 runs of it. Seems to be a sold out race and a massive field with 41 entrants in the Juvenile Cat alone... So he'll have a decent bunch of racers to battle against.
After some rain recently i think we'll stick with the Maxxis Shorty DH on the front and the Minion DHF on the back. We've got a brand new Assegai and a newer Shorty (but in Maxxterra compound) but he's ridden these tyres exclusively over winter, so no point changing them the week before the race.
After practice on Friday we'll do a brake pad check, overall bike check but i think we're pretty much good to roll. He seems to be looking forward to it though, so that's a good thing

Re: MTB Racing 2022. Game time, lets get going
An epic day finished with 20th/45 racers. In some ways that may not sound amazing, but TBF to the lad i'm massively impressed. In his first DH race against this level of guys he was 37/38. So to get up to 20th i think is awesome. He really seemed to enjoy himself which is the important thing.

I don't think the pics do justice to how steep it was.

Re: MTB Racing 2022. Game time, lets get going
With the changes of plans for the series, come the changes of events.
So instead of being at Twisted Oaks on the 13th March, it seems we're at DH racing on the 13th instead in Forest of Dean. Hopefully on a new DH bike. Well i say hopefully, but i'm 100% sure that within 2 weeks we'll have found, sorted and bought one.
It's a race series called MIJ which we've not raced with before, but my local mate and his 2 lads have done.
We're then straight off on the 20th up to Berwyn/Llangollen in Wales for another DH race.

Re: MTB Racing 2022. Game time, lets get going
So with the Enduro entries cancelled and refunded, that freed up some cash for DH entries. There will be more getting booked, but that's certainly enough for one day.
