Mrs D got me Michel Roux Jr's
La Gavroche Cookbook. She asked them if they could get Michel to sign it with a little dedication for me. To her surprise, he did!
I had one of the most expensive nights of my life in that place. Never mind an autograph, it would have been nice if he'd done a little song and dance routine to soften the blow.

We watch MasterChef all the time and check out prices and places as we think "yeah let's go crazy" then once we look at the menus I think "fuck it, let's do gourmet burger kitchen"

Cracking place though. The Mrs used to work for a small company and it's where the boss used to organise 'business meetings' ie schmoozing clients, so partners got invited sometimes.

Tried loads of times to get a table at La Gavroche, it's like getting gig tickets.
Yeah its expensive...but people think nothing of spending hundreds on booze and nights you only half remember. And I don't really drink so I've got it spare

My friend, who now manages a supermarket on the Isle of Man, was trained to cook by Michel Roux when he worked at the Savoy, Chris says he gets played more than he would as a chef and the hours are considerably better.

Gordon Ramsay is now a brand ambassador for Ferrari, such is the number of cars he's bought from them.
Seems like it's probably a highly variable profession!

It's the difference between owing a restaurant and working in a restaurant, while Chris can manage a shop he couldn't run a business.

So far, I have been gifted the joy of a lie in where I slept solidly for the full hour.
No having to take the dog for a shite in the blasting cold wind for me, Christmas dinner may be slightly delayed due to the beef going in slightly later than planned.
How long does beef take to cook?
20 mins per 450g plus 20 mins. 7 kilo rib of beef takes 5.5 hours plus resting time. The joint was ordered when there was supposed to be at least 8 possibly 10 around the table.
Covid jail and a bereavement in the family (daughter’s partner’s gran) has wiped 4 off the list so we are down to 6 of us including a vegetarian.
The beef took a bit longer than scheduled as our power went off 3.5 hours into the cook (12pm) and we had to rely on latent heat to finish it off. It was a touch pink for some but hot gravy helped with that. Thank goodness for gas hob, mashed spuds and boiled veg saved the day.
The guys from northern powergrid are finally working on the fix now… FML

Well providing I can get the dining room table to build it on, which depends on us finishing a marathon Monopoly game.

Sadly my Fox Proframe helmet is going back to chain reaction, but will be replaced by a different make.
I go bamboo undercrackers which are far softer than you'd think by their name.
I've got no swaps though, as not only do me and the wife know eachother well, but discuss the presents in advance and have a small budget. Although I'm pretty sure she went over budget!

Bought myself Escape From Colditz board game, just had a quick trial game so I can explain how to play to my family, the rules are not particularly complicated, but what an incredibly tactical game, if you're playing as an escape officer you really need to have a plan of what you're going to do.
I got a copy of this too, to my considerable delight. We'll be playing tomorrow. My son-in-law has announced he'll be thew Germans, and has been practicing his accent all evening

We had a game this afternoon, it's good, playing the Germans is harder than escaping.

LOL. You'll not get splinters in your bum, it's basically rayon - a semi-synthetic made from the cellulose extracted from the bamboo. Better for the planet than cotton though so you're now officially 'Green'. Probably counts as carbon offset against the bike.

Growing bamboo is better for the planet than cotton is sure, but actually turning it into fabric....not so clear cut!

Yeah, cotton probably wasn't the best comparison end-to-end. However, there is another version where the bamboo is mechanically pulped and retted with an enzyme to make a silky fibre so that's probably the way forward...no worries about having to have closed loop solvent use or carbon disulphide issues.

Tis really 'kin hard to find bamboo thats been processed that way though, or at least stuff that explicitly is. Trust me, I've looked!
