There's a bloke races Supermono with BHR on a pair of Honda Bros' with KTM 690 engines in them. They look ace.

Old pics I took at Mallory a few years back, they're not very good. I can't find out anything about them on the tinternets...weeksy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 6:07 pmNeeds more pics.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 6:03 pm There's a bloke races Supermono with BHR on a pair of Honda Bros' with KTM 690 engines in them. It's a pity that nobody really made a decent attempt at a hardcore Supermono, that SZR could have been good with a more focused engine and not that soggy XTZ lump with trailie gearing.

You'd think it was right up KTM's street with the 70bhp 690 engine, but they just stuck it in the Duke and the SM, no RC

Dunno about nobody making a good go at Supermonos.
Tiggcraft and Over Racing had a few good attempts if I remember right.

I had an xl500, after I'd got it and had to push it a few times, I read an old review "great when it goes" pretty much summed it up. Never did actually suss out what was wrong with it but I did learn that when it "died" kick it over first time and then rev the nuts off it, wore a hole in my mx boots with so much kicking the pile of shit that it was.The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 1:40 pm I'd have one of these...

A CB500RS - a real street sleeper.
Take one CB250RS single, and replace the lump with the XL or FT500 motor. I was always tempted, quite a few got built.

Endless threads on this on the hawk GT forum at one time ….I still have the spade drill used to drill holes in the air box - wish I still had the two brothers jack up plates .Dickyboy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 7:24 pmSomeone made a Honda Severe from a Bros by putting a bored out africa twin engine and cbr600 front end on it bitd.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 6:03 pm There's a bloke races Supermono with BHR on a pair of Honda Bros' with KTM 690 engines in them. On my Bros 400 I just left the top off the airbox, no drilling needed.

I think it was keV Raymond and I'm fairly sure it's still in his barn (amongst other things) in France somewhere.
He probably wouldn't mind me saying, in it's time it was fast enough but a decent sv or Duke of the same class would beat it.
But to an officianado of the genre, heaven.

On reflection this was probably a better idea - snorkel removal etc.

This had and still has a Tiggcraft frame, as you can see the lanky streak of piss won a few races on it, probably due to the most excellent pit crew.demographic wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 7:09 pm Dunno about nobody making a good go at Supermonos.

Well, if you won you could send one or two to a professional shop and get them finished (provided they accept Soapy tenners ). Which one would get tweaked and primped?inewham wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 9:41 amSometimes real life, lack of spare time, lack of funds (or better things to spend it on), working yourself into an early grave etc. gets in the wayweeksy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 9:37 am I don't understand the desire for keeping bikes you don't like, won't finish and don't clearly actually even want ! It's a strange one to me what many of you do. Either own the bike, have it sorted and use it.. or... well, don't. Owning a 'project' for years and years without doing anything with it, seems madness to me.

If I was spending a spare £4K I'd get all 3 of my project bikes painted, but I do think paint is a waste of money on track bikes.

Re: Build Your Own *l$%#y Custom
I always wanted to build a ZX6R (ZZR600 engine in a ZXR400 frame), but now i doubt i could ride it for more than 10 minutes.
If I ever find time and cash excess to keeping the JAPton on road, I might consider buying a 2nd Rockster and cafe-ing it, including a supercharger.

ZZR6 engine goes nicely in a ZRX400 frame, your challenge is finding a ZRX400.
I'd like a GSXR400RR with an RF600 engine.

Weirdest thing in that vein i ever saw was a Triumph T120 (or something) engine and gearbox in a RGV250 frame.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 10:29 am ZZR6 engine goes nicely in a ZRX400 frame, your challenge is finding a ZRX400.

Re: Build Your Own *l$%#y Custom
I saw an FZR400 with a TRX850 engine at Cadwell once. I don't think the 850 lump is that much quicker than the 400, maybe the guy just liked twins.
