As for the OP's question, keep an eye on Bike Park Wales website. They sell off their Trek ex-hire e-bikes and they were due to be selling of their 2020 bikes just before it all went to shit. I bought mine from them and paid roughly half the retail price for it and came fully serviced and more or less a completely new groupset on it because they wanted me to be happy with it.

Damn, that just reminded me, Pedalabikeaway (Forest of Dean) have an Orange for sale, it's a bit of budget stretch at £3750 but you won't get much better value for money than this..

So because you've ridden a shit e-mtb twice EVERY e-mtb is as you describe?

My Trek does NOT ride like a fucking barge, it does NOT jump like an ocean liner and does NOT have the feel of a jelly balanced on a snowboard.

I'm banging in the miles, up in the High Peak before the world went to shit (but am going back up there this weekend) and now in some local woods (very much like a bike park, several hundred acres of d/hill trails, red and black level, some natural and some built by local riders) and am never going back to a conventional bike because there is not one single downside to e-mtb (decent e-mtb) riding and only upsides when compared to conventional mtb's.

I've had three road legal e-bikes. All limited to 240W by law. In the real world it's a nice help on the flat but show them a hill and you are back to grunting.

I've no experience of non legal higher wattage ones.

Which motors have you had as in turbo mode the Bosch engines bikes fly up hills. So do the specialised ones and any proper ebikes

You know you can still pedal at 110% on an ebike too it’s just you’ll be going faster, they assist and the more you put in the more you get. There’s nothing stopping you giving your all on an ebike

But for me it’s all about the speed I get for my effort, I can’t think of anything worse than giving my all on a climb and going 5mph. At a trail centre that’s half a route wasted, on an ebike even the uphills have jumps berms and corners to be attacked. In an hour I can get nearly twice the distance on an ebike, thats nearly 4 times the fun in the same time

You get every single one of those things with an e-mtb.

It's a force multiplier, however much effort you put in the bike multiplies it. The different modes vary how much assistance the motor gives and what the assistance torque curve looks like; Touring is a maximum of 40% assistance with a very linear torque curve as the pedal rpm increases, Turbo is 300% assistance from pretty much zero pedal rpm. You use the mode selection a bit like a front derailleur, to match the torque to the available grip and to prolong battery life.

It's not a case of sitting on it and getting wafted along with no effort, you have to put in the graft. What it means is you can go further and faster for the same effort and you can ride up stuff that you'd have to be a world class rider to get up on a conventional bike. It makes the climbs as much fun as the downhills.

Rob Warner, who I used to race against (well, race against is a bit strong...I was in the same races as him), is quite enthusiastic about them...

I'm not even going to begin to comprehend where you're going with that one.

Motorbikes and bicycles fulfill 2 completely different requirements in my life, they have no relevance to eachother in any way, apart from a physical similarity.
Motorbikes are transport that give me a sense of freedom, I sense of concentration and focus.

However, the feelings end there really

But 300 calories burnt on an ebike is done by you, without you putting effort in they don’t move lol so you are still doing it yourself, why not add extra speed so you burn the same 300 calories but add in a load of Adrenalin for free

It's about tranquility, it's about following a butterfly, or seeing a deer, a rabbit, it's about watching the clouds, noticing the seasons change, feeling the wind helping or hindering, looking out over the hills.

If I wanted speed, I'd have a KTM 350
