As for the OP's question, keep an eye on Bike Park Wales website. They sell off their Trek ex-hire e-bikes and they were due to be selling of their 2020 bikes just before it all went to shit. I bought mine from them and paid roughly half the retail price for it and came fully serviced and more or less a completely new groupset on it because they wanted me to be happy with it.

Back at you, I've ridden one too. I've got one in the garage and having ridden it twice, I'd rather walk than ride it again. Personal preference buddy.millemille wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:13 pmRubbish.

Damn, that just reminded me, Pedalabikeaway (Forest of Dean) have an Orange for sale, it's a bit of budget stretch at £3750 but you won't get much better value for money than this..millemille wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:23 pm As for the OP's question, keep an eye on Bike Park Wales website. You want at least a 500kw battery, wouldn’t even consider anything less tbh.Julian_Boolean wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 6:58 pm What about this

So because you've ridden a shit e-mtb twice EVERY e-mtb is as you describe?weeksy wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 7:56 pmBack at you, I've ridden one too. My Trek does NOT ride like a fucking barge, it does NOT jump like an ocean liner and does NOT have the feel of a jelly balanced on a snowboard.
I'm banging in the miles, up in the High Peak before the world went to shit (but am going back up there this weekend) and now in some local woods (very much like a bike park, several hundred acres of d/hill trails, red and black level, some natural and some built by local riders) and am never going back to a conventional bike because there is not one single downside to e-mtb (decent e-mtb) riding and only upsides when compared to conventional mtb's.

2. I've ridden others, I didn't like them
We're going to have to disagree here I think. I simply do not like any ebike I've ridden, both as a bike and as a concept. Does that make me right and you wrong, or you right and me wrong, no, it just makes us different

How many ebikes you ridden ?, if it’s the wife’s one that’s like riding a vfr800 and proclaiming all sports bikes are heavy......weeksy wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:58 pmThe thing about FS and even big meaty tyres is that on an Ebike they don't matter, you get the extra comfort from both, but because you have the motor, they don't have the downsides of weight... well, they do, but not in the same way.Julian_Boolean wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 4:47 pm I've got a hardtail ordinary MTB and never found the lack of rear suspension a big problem, on the flat I could get this up to around 15mph on the hard trails in the forest near me (Rendlesham for anyone interested), I have to say I do see rear suspension as just something else to go wrong and unnecessary on something as light as a MTB, I'm too old for doing big jumps and have no intention of doing fast downhill stuff.
The Trek does look good, other choices would be good, I've got an Evans, a Thomas Cycle Centre and an independent cycle shop called Pedal Power near me, I'm also friendly with someone who sells Haibikes, is it worth going to a physical shop or is mail order okay given the considerable cost savings using mail order?
Me, i personally don't like ebikes, they ride like a fucking barge, they jump like an ocean liner and have the feel of a jelly balanced on a snowboard... but, i would still go Full Suspension if it were me for the comfort.

Either way, you're not going to convince me. Everything I like about bikes involves the lack of assistance, all your and his positives are my negatives and all my positives are your negatives. I enjoy the pain, the aches, the sweat, the graft, the struggles and the wondering if I can make just 2 more miles home. It's not honestly not just a like, it's what completely rules my life, my desires, my being, the riding is what gets me out of bed, indoors, outdoors, there are not many days that I don't pedal, without it, I'm a bit lost

these days I refer to it as Battery anxiety, the anxiety that the battery will run out and I'll have to pedal the last mile without assistance

You know you can still pedal at 110% on an ebike too it’s just you’ll be going faster, they assist and the more you put in the more you get. There’s nothing stopping you giving your all on an ebikeweeksy wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:28 pm3. But for me it’s all about the speed I get for my effort, I can’t think of anything worse than giving my all on a climb and going 5mph. At a trail centre that’s half a route wasted, on an ebike even the uphills have jumps berms and corners to be attacked. In an hour I can get nearly twice the distance on an ebike, thats nearly 4 times the fun in the same time

It's a force multiplier, however much effort you put in the bike multiplies it. The different modes vary how much assistance the motor gives and what the assistance torque curve looks like; Touring is a maximum of 40% assistance with a very linear torque curve as the pedal rpm increases, Turbo is 300% assistance from pretty much zero pedal rpm. You use the mode selection a bit like a front derailleur, to match the torque to the available grip and to prolong battery life.
It's not a case of sitting on it and getting wafted along with no effort, you have to put in the graft. What it means is you can go further and faster for the same effort and you can ride up stuff that you'd have to be a world class rider to get up on a conventional bike. It makes the climbs as much fun as the downhills.
Rob Warner, who I used to race against (well, race against is a bit strong...I was in the same races as him), is quite enthusiastic about them...

Re: £3K Electrically Assisted MTB
I understand that, but it 100% defeats the whole point of it. It doesn't matter if I burnt 300 cals on yours and 300 cals in mine, covering twice the distance on yours and twice the trails. I didn't do it on my own merits. That's the point, it's not how fast, how far, it's doing it yourself.
I'll never get it. Ever.

Motorbikes and bicycles fulfill 2 completely different requirements in my life, they have no relevance to eachother in any way, apart from a physical similarity.
Motorbikes are transport that give me a sense of freedom, I sense of concentration and focus.
However, the feelings end there really

But 300 calories burnt on an ebike is done by you, without you putting effort in they don’t move lol so you are still doing it yourself, why not add extra speed so you burn the same 300 calories but add in a load of Adrenalin for freeweeksy wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 9:49 pm I understand that, but it 100% defeats the whole point of it. Because I don't want to. Simple as that. I'm not you, or him, or, well, others, I'm me
It's not about the world going by as quickly as possible, it's not about getting the climbs out the way. It's about tranquility, it's about following a butterfly, or seeing a deer, a rabbit, it's about watching the clouds, noticing the seasons change, feeling the wind helping or hindering, looking out over the hills.
If I wanted speed, I'd have a KTM 350
I want a scalpel not a battering ram.
