I used to watch Doohan and the likes of Abe and wonder how they contorted onto the bike like that ......... i also had a young mate who raced is SS400 in the UK club scene early 2000's long before Marquez and the modern lot had changed the style. Danny Palmer always rode like this and everybody always said he was trying too hard and tried to change his riding style but it never worked and he either went slower or crashed so he went back to what he did well. Turns out the kid was waaay ahead of his time ....and on road tyres

That may be a key point. Zoom and look at the profile of Doohan's rear tyre, then this rear..

Lol, i thought it was Paul Rogers but based that purely on he was always there or thereabouts and thought his race number ended in 2 ...... its been a about 20 years so quite possibly wrong

Found a PDF programme of that 2002 season and entries. I was right that Paul ran 62 Andy Sprake ran 46 but cant see a David Taylor listed

Ha ha, could be....although both Andy and Dave(RIP) used to wear those fieldsheer leathers ??
