Who's upgrading to Windows 11

I need a new laptop, but I'm holding off until I get W11 pre-installed.

This business of a 'free upgrade' is a PITA.

Seems to be working ok on my laptop, installed on Friday as update from windows 10 . Just not been able to install the full version of the AMD video driver yet but that is not interfering with the normal usage.

I had another look for why gen7 processors are excluded from windows 11 and have at last found what could be a valid reason.
The Spectre and Meltdown bugs that were in the news before covid were processor design faults that MS tried to fix with software with limited success, I also seem to remember this fix affected performance significantly.
So they wouldn't want to carry the fix over to the new os and by insisting on fixed hardware they can leave it out.
Either that or they just want to push new PC sales.

I gave in and upgraded. The laptop is much faster and no more memory and disk usage 100%.

I may need to do the same. The new laptop running W11 is massively quicker than the old one. The old one is still reasonable spec, and has a 17" screen, but is dog slow!

I've installed Windows 11 for non-business users more times than I can count now but the only thing I would recommend is to use the Professional version and have no truck with Microsoft accounts that tie you in to their other services. The continual tricks they use to get you to change your account to a Microsoft one really annoys me. A Windows 11 Pro license need only cost about £20 from a legitimate on line source and it gives you complete administrative control over what is allowed to run on your machine. For example if you prefer you can set up a policy which disables widgets, you can choose which browser to use, you can delete unnecessary background programs and scheduled tasks, the list is endless.

Couldn't agree more. The 'big machine' in the house had Pro on it as supplied, my laptop doesn't. One is almost a pleasure to use...and boots like a booty thing from the solid state disk, it's not constantly updating either. Yup. Go Pro.

I'm sure you can. Both the Pro and Home machines are running Firefox. The Home machine does occasionally want to revert to Edge or whatever and Bing as the search engine but I'm pretty sure you can choose the defaults.

Home here and installed Brave just fine.

Win 11 Pro. Did the registry hack for my Xeon to be allowed to run the OS. Works great. No issues and speedy on all applications. Been running this for a while now, did the upgrade last year and have been enjoying it since then. Chrome browser.

Every time I restart my W10 PC, I get asked if I'd like to upgrade, no idea really if I want to or not. I have W11 on my laptop, it came with W11 and I like it, but for some reason I'm always cautious over 'upgrades' for some reason.
