Well the bar end mirrors I had didn't fit as they only take an (expensive) CNC special bracket job apparently. So I'll stick with the antenna ones. Just as well as the mirror blanking pads I have are for a mk3 Tmax and don't fit either! D'oh! On the plus side the front brakes bled easily and the pads are all moving freely etc. I was gong to see if I could I repack the baffle on the akra as its a bit fruity, but its well stuck in there. Another job fro another day. Think i'll take it for a run one day next week, if the weathers okay, and give it a bit of a shake down as I've had a few weeks now but not really used it to evaluate whats what properly yet.

Seems my 2nd hand OEM variator is lost somewhere between here and Lithuania! Ho-hum. PITA though as I have an unexpected week off and it would have been good to have got that done.
I decided that whilst the front caliper pistons are moving okay, the pads look a but second hand and unevenly worn? Almost like its had new discs but ysed the old pads! Anyway, a set of EBCs are winging their way to me. I sort of ordered them on auto pilot and remember afterwards I went off of EBC pads and have only bought OEM in recent years. Oh well, too late now and if they are shite, at £18 for 2 pairs, its not going to be an expensive mistake!

New pads arrived today, so I thought I’d give the callipers a proper clean and make sure all 4 pistons moved freely. No need all sparkly clean with freely moving pistons and copper slip everywhere I expect to see it!
The pads look rough and are HHS which I’m not a fan of as they only get bite with heat. Organic compounds are much better suited to my commute. So in went the new set of organics! Those and the freshly bled brakes should stop it in the required manner. I’m off for a road test shortly to confirm it.
Here’s the old HHS. Is it me or do they look sort of knackered? I guess the sintered bits get rusty on a bike that has stood?

A good scobe will freshen them up. Sintered pads always look a bit manky when stood.

They'll go into the shed for me to wonder wtf they were off of in about 5 years time!

Took the scoot for a 70 mile round trip. Funny. Its like riding a Parker Knoll recliner!

I had a 2011 250 Xmax for a while, it was great for ages until it started cutting out. Just coughed and spluttered under load and died. I did all the usual stuff, plug, air intake, drained fuel etc. It got worse so I had the variator and belt changed (to a Malossi), it worked better for a bit but went back to cutting out under load. I took it to a Yamaha dealer and they had it for months (pandemic, opening hours etc.) They kept updating me with what they were doing, checking valve seals, blowing out the jets, blah blah but couldn't find the cause. They eventually said come and get it, we can't get the fault to re occur. I went to collect and ended up trading it in for a brand new Tech Max 300 with them.

Fooked if I know when this variator is going to turn up from Lithuania! PITA as I'd like to have got it fitted before i go back to work. Mind you I'm at least learning how to keep the revs down on the jcosta, well sort of.

Caved in and bought some heavier weights for the Jcosta variator. They are coming from Germany by DHL worldwide and should be here within days. If the OEM variator turns up at the same time i'll fit that and sell the J costa with 2 sets of weights, so it should be win win, but I suspect the OEM variator from Lithuania has gone awol! Somethings got to be done one way or another as the constant over revving on pull away is doing me nut in!
Found out today the odd bar end weights set up isn't unique to the Tmax and actually a lot of the Yamaha range including the MTs has the same set up! So the usual Chinese suppliers have offerings and maybe some decent 2nd hand ones will turn up on eBay? Good to have more options opening up should I bother to go down that route.

Fecking knew it! The variator from Lithuania is here and out for delivery this morning! The DHL delivery of the new JCosta variator weights from Germany has now switched carrier and disappeared into the Parcelforce waiting network! Wonder why DHL use Parcelforce when they have a UK delivery set up? Maybe a customs thing?

Still, I'll get the OEM set up I want, so alls well that ends well. I may even reclaim my outlay with the sale of the JCosta?

JCosta variator weights turned up this morning!

Still the new variator is on and makes the scoot much nicer to ride, if a little less entertaining!

I found out the current mirrors are from a mk3 Tmax and not the right ones. So I thought see if a pair of s/hand OEM ones were about on eBay and I found a pair for under £23 delivered! A few scuffs but that doesn't matter as its my commuter hack. As I'm on the payments page I realise I'm buying them from the dealer i bought the bike from! So I'm probably buying my own mirrors, iyswim! No worries though as the MK3 mirrors will probably sell for a lot more than £23!
Whilst I was fitting the variator, I removed the cable ties holding the panels together and replaced them with spire clips and screws, so everything is much tidier now. Never understood why people do such bodges instead of fitting the right clips which are literally pennies! It really crabbed the bike to look at with cable ties on there and must have put people off?
Anyway, spongy brakes, almost sorted. Cable tied panels , sorted. Over revving sorted. Odd mirrors, sorted. Its almost ready for sale now!

Lol, it was considered but dismissed prior to buying the scoot. Now i've got a few niggles sorted out, i'm really enjoying the Tmax. I forgot what fun and how comfortable a maxi scooter can be! I withdrew the NCX from sale though, just in case my weight loss program eases things with my knee...

The correct mirrors fitted.

Sorry, still ugly. But then what can I say riding a K1200R!!!!!
Glad the bike is serving you well and all the best with the weight loss regime, I'm going through something similar and it is nice sometimes and really sucks at other times!!

Yes, there is nothing Tamburini-esq about it, that's for sure!

Maxi-Scoots win people over when they ride them and find they are good for what they were designed for, being great mile munchers/commuters with an amusing bit of cheekiness thrown in for good measure! I'm really happy with this Tmax, for just those reasons, but I'm always going to miss a bike!

The POS is now slipping its clutch. This is what happens when people run stupidly light variator weights in scoots. Not too bad on most scoots as the clutch is normally a centrifugal brake shoe type and an easy and cheap job. But on the Tmax its a wet multi-plate type with friction, spacer and spring plates and tiny springs etc and a bit of a ball ache to do. Not the end of the world, but a PITA when you haven't got a garage and I really CBA to lay out in the cold and wet to fix it.
So I put it up for sale cheap-ish disclosing the fault. Had a couple of offers and TBH I'm tempted to take one of them now and just move on and put it behind me. But that would mean losing over a grand in a few months, so I'm also thinking just park it until spring and then fix it myself? Decisions, decisions...
