A seller feedback score of only two, that may be a thing....

It's been suggested on a couple of other forums I'm on, technical ones, that there's a lot of fake Mitotuyo out there, and very convincing fakes at that.

Whether it's true or makes a difference I don't know.

I was suspicious that I thought they were fake - the paperwork behind is in Chinese.
On the prior ones, and some of the others, it is in Japanese ...

I am beginning to learn how to spot them!
I don't need 90 quid ones ...

DIGITAL!!!!!!!!
FFS.
Do you need that level of accuracy or can't use proper ones?
Got a set of old school mituyo 'borrowed' from a now defunct engineering firm. Anything I do is only 2dp max so no need for owt fancy.
Found they go out of spec quickly when dropped off the machine beds several times!

And I should also use a slide rule …

Question still stands, do you need that level of accuracy?

The question may be better as "do you need that level of precision?', I wouldn't expect digital ones to be any more accurate.

Absolutely not.
I am not a real engineer, you know!

Ooh, I love a precision / accuracy debate!

accuracy as describing a combination of both types of observational error above (random and systematic), so high accuracy requires both high precision and high trueness.

When I served my time in the 70s we used all non digital measuring gear. As a result I'm at home using the old stuff, but I can see how a different generation will find it easier and quicker reading a screen, rather than using the older method.

Tech moves on and if the operator can work to the level of tolerance required,it doesn't really matter how he/she gets there.

There are good bargains to be had buying old Moore & Wright stuff,so that's a plus.

Have a look at Cromwell tools, they have some cheaper options which are very good. Personally out of all of my calipers, the dial indicator is my fave, but they do have a pair of Moore and Wright digitals for around £30.
