Why are they called Slingshots anyway? Well before my time and I never bothered to find out...

Only thing I can think of is the shape of the frame?

Edit: Ha, apparently its the shape of the carbs. There are some very strong opinions on the matter out there :D

I think the genuine reason is Suzuki marketing, but it started with the 750s, when they went from the early shape to the curvy shape in 1988 Suzuki went from slide carbs to CV carbs, it was seen as a backward step by some people at the time (including me) so Suzuki said they had "slingshot" carbs that worked as well as the slide carbs.

Which brings about the question did they work as well or better than the slide carbs they replaced, top speed of a 1988 750 is about the same as a 1985 750, the CV carbs were easier to live with, the slides have better throttle response so long as you got it right, but if you got it wrong it bogged down.

Yeah I can imagine....the Bonnevile has slide carbs, slide carbs which are about as simple as they come. If you just crack the throttle you go nowhere, you have to feel your way up.

As someone who grew up with either EFI or "final generation" carb bikes it was a bit of an eye opener.

75 miles this afternoon, between thunderstorms.

Gear change is fine now I'm more used to it.

The chain is too tight, I need to do something about that.

The brakes are fine, had the wheel chirping hard braking for a 30 zone.

It'll hit an indicated 140mph in 4th before it hits the limiter.

The rear shock is way too soft, I looked am myself in a shop window and it looked like I was riding a chopper!

It handles fine, even on the superseded touring tyres they fitted... but I didn't get my knee down.

Got the tyres run in.

Chain slackened off a bit, it was like a bow string with me sat on the bike, the mechanic must have set it static without the suspension compressed. Much better now.

Checked the rear shock. There's 7 pre-load steps... it was on one. Put my c-spanner on it and couldn't get it to shift, needed more leverage....

Bit heath robinson, but it worked.

It's now set to 6. Because I'm a fat bastard. We'll see what difference it makes next time I go out.

I've also spotted that the fusebox has been relocated.

The red circles are where the fuse box should be and the blue is the fusebox. No idea why it's been moved.

That's going to take some getting used to, you should try a big slide carb, my Husky had a 40mm DellOrto, it could be bloody horrible, or absolutely superb, depending on how awake you were.

The fuse box may have been moved so something could be stored under the seat

Last year (or the year before) there was no difference between steady and inters, I started out in Inters and moved down to Steady, there was no difference in the pace.

Not that I'd want to ride that barge round Cadwell, but it'd be fun watching you do it.

If it had proper tyres on it instead of previous gen touring tyres I would be seriously tempted, but I think I've spend enough money this month.

If you'd ridden my K1200Rs you wouldn't call the GSXR a barge. It's funny they're parked next to each other in the garage and Big red is almost twice the size!

Must admit I'd struggle living with the paint scheme, that other one for sale at £7k is a much more saleable bike! :D

I'm getting used to the paint, it's very 90's. Which I like.

I spent an hour last night polishing it and putting some washers under the idiot light cover to stop it rattling, but now I've run out of jobs to do!

Next pay day I might buy a rear braided brake hose, and one from the front MC to the splitter (the two from the splitter to the calipers are already braided).

I'd quite like a proper carbon fibre yoke protector (like a fibre-lyte one from the 90's), I've noticed my boots mark up the heel plates too, some solvo fixed them, but if I could fine some CF ones I'd be really happy.
