My memory of the MT03 was that it could have done with a bit more power.weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 12:02 pmthe 660 engine needs a PC3 and a few airbox mods to let it breathe IMO, a bit fettle and it completely changes everything about these things.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 12:00 pm I've ridden the MT03 that had the XT660X engine and thought the engine was nice but the chassis was bit meh, I'm too short to reach the ground on an XT660X but I can on an XT660R.
Which has just reminded me, Aprillia Pegaso with XT660 engine, they did a factory version as well.

Re: Modern day TDR250
You're welcome to try my 690 if you want. Only real issue with them is rocker arm bearings, lots of high miler 690s about. Mine uses some oil but not a lot and I don't find it vibey either. Comfy for a good few hours in the saddle, light and powerful for a small bike. The later 690s don't have the rocker arm issue either I think as they have a different head design. Don't believe the talk about later rocker arms on the 12 to 16 models as mine had the later design and still needed doing.
I should imagine a 390 would be nearly comparable to a TDR as well a look different to the 690.

Re: Modern day TDR250
It's a pity KTM don't make a 390 SMC, the Duke 390 looks a little bit too road bike to cope with the shitty surface of the B roads round here, though if I were to buy another Supermoto style bike I could see me going round in the same circle as before, loving it for the first year then getting a sick of the impracticality of it and it being a pig to find some one who wants to buy it.

Re: Modern day TDR250
the 390 engine would feel a bit learner IMO, you really need to work it very hard and they're revvy little buggers without actually having any 'pull' that excites, they rev and rev, but it's more scooter than grunter.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:21 pm It's a pity KTM don't make a 390 SMC, the Duke 390 looks a little bit too road bike to cope with the shitty surface of the B roads round here, though if I were to buy another Supermoto style bike I could see me going round in the same circle as before, loving it for the first year then getting a sick of the impracticality of it and it being a pig to find some one who wants to buy it.

I think that's the great thing about the 690, 150 mile tank range, comfy, decent suspension, decent powerLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:21 pm It's a pity KTM don't make a 390 SMC, the Duke 390 looks a little bit too road bike to cope with the shitty surface of the B roads round here, though if I were to buy another Supermoto style bike I could see me going round in the same circle as before, loving it for the first year then getting a sick of the impracticality of it and it being a pig to find some one who wants to buy it.

I know, standard they made about 30bhp as it was the only way Aprilia could make them stay together.weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:30 pmLOLOLOL i'll get you some threads from Performance Bikes... you'll love them.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:29 pm And then I see this

I like the looks of these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164788607557 ... Sw2pBgaDVt
The later ones don't look as nice, but an 1100 twin is a bit of a big lump, did Ducati ever make a 620 motard?

I think the 796 was the smallest, same engine they used in the Scrambler.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:37 pm I like the looks of these

This is going to sound incredibly fussy, but I don't like the back end of the newer ones.

Nah - Husqvarna 501, pair of Talon/Excel 17" wheels with a larger front disc and Cush drive.
Perfect.

You go find one and all the bits then ride it for 200 miles in a dayPitaNaanRoti wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 2:46 pm Nah - Husqvarna 501, pair of Talon/Excel 17" wheels with a larger front disc and Cush drive.

But then I've got lots of other stuff to play on too for longer distances than that.
The 501 with a larger rotor cover so there's little more oil and extended service intervals is set up as a light weight go anywhere enduro.
Like a mini 701 but still 15kgs less after the rally tower, protection, luggage, etc is on it.
17" wheels are just a bonus.
And all for less than £12k brand new.

My 610 was bad enough, and the 510 has a narrower seat and is twitchier.weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 2:59 pmYou go find one and all the bits then ride it for 200 miles in a dayPitaNaanRoti wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 2:46 pm Nah - Husqvarna 501, pair of Talon/Excel 17" wheels with a larger front disc and Cush drive.

Two good suggestions from KFB though, I'm not sure about a white Ducati, if it was yellow or red, then I could seriously be considering a purchase, I like the look of the MASH, but I suspect the engine is a copy of the FMX650 rather than an XR650L, and I could get the 2nd hand Ducati for the same money.
Certainly some food for thought, though I've no idea where I'd keep it, I'd have to give KFB my FZR400 for safe keeping.

Re: Modern day TDR250
TDR was very much a bike of its time, I don't know how anyone could think a 4t single will ever be the same. I loved mine, but I don't think I'd pay big money for one, never mind something that's not the same.
