I fully intend to keep them and I still believe that even now when I collect a new one

It may be about to increase by 1, I'm seriously considering buying a YZF750 that's come up, and there's a 1999 R1 very local at sensible money available.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:43 pmCome back in a few years and I probably will have, I've got 2 complete Yamahas, one in bits, a YPVS frame, an FZ750 race engine and a load of other bits and pieces, and a 1982 Kawasaki that's got a Yamaha front end.Skub wrote: Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:21 amI first read that as you have 30-40 old Yamahas.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Wed Jun 23, 2021 9:20 am I like to buy an old bike and fiddle with it, I'm not too worried what I spend on it as for me fiddling with it is part of the hobby and it tends to be more of a trickle spend, not so good at selling them and I seem to be amassing 30 to 40 year old Yamahas.![]()

Stop renting the apartment out to swingers and the pool wont need cleaning as muchYorick wrote: Wed Jun 23, 2021 4:32 pm
I only get €15 a month spending money. And I have to pay the pool cleaner out of that.
Quite similar traits…Skub wrote: Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:47 pm When you buy a fresh bike, how long do you usually plan to keep it?
Does how long your ownership lasts impact on which modifications you will fund?
I tend to keep stuff fairly long term and over that period I wouldn't like to tot up what I spend on odds and ends, but so far I've never went big, such as spendy lightweight wheels. Once I'm happy with how it handles, then the rest is usually fluff.
The Tens are great bikes. I had an 04 C1 for almost 15 years,I'd love to have kept it,but I don't really have the space to do the multi bike thing! I came away from sportsbikes to keep me away from the big numbers on the road,a naked bike helps in that respect, though it does allow you to be a tool in other ways.r1flyguy wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:04 pm

I used to keep my bikes 3 years and 15k to 20k miles when traded for new.
However since 2009 I can’t bet parting with my bikes![]()
Having sold my 2005 model ZX10R to fund some training in 2009 I was able to purchase a new ZX10R.
I then set about modding it to how I thought it should be!! In 2016 the winter test model was released & I loved it so knowing my 09’ was worth nothing in trade in I added the winter test mod to the garage. That one is standard but for the end can, tail tidy & screen. The 09 however is visually unchanged to the ‘untrained’ eye but cosmetically it’s a different beast entirely.
I'd kill for crash bungs on my current bike, but the only crash protection makes it look a little too much like a learning centre bike
I find not crashing much easierMrLongbeard wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:40 pmI'd kill for crash bungs on my current bike, but the only crash protection makes it look a little too much like a learning centre bike

I'm all for folk enjoying what they bought, other folk don't have a right to tell you how to spend your money,or justify which bike to buy. If there were such stipulations, very few would qualify!r1flyguy wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 4:56 pm Pity the fastest colour is wasted on me![]()

How many have you broken permanently,or do you still have them all?The Spin Doctor wrote: Sat Jun 26, 2021 6:57 pmUntil it breaks permanently.Skub wrote: Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:47 pm When you buy a fresh bike, how long do you usually plan to keep it?
Weeeeell... most of them were abandoned in my parents' garage... along with my brother's bikes. When we did the house clearance after they died, it was like a Time Team dig. The further back you went, the older they got! If I'd had the enthusiasm, I could have stripped some of them for classic parts!Skub wrote: Sat Jun 26, 2021 8:15 pmHow many have you broken permanently,or do you still have them all?The Spin Doctor wrote: Sat Jun 26, 2021 6:57 pmUntil it breaks permanently.Skub wrote: Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:47 pm When you buy a fresh bike, how long do you usually plan to keep it?![]()
