Taff wrote: Wed May 05, 2021 7:42 pm TBH I think it was last year that was messed up, far too warm and dry throughout spring.

That warm weather had a direct knock on effect on nature and it was really noticeable in the honey crop I had in the summer. Because it was so dry throughout spring many of the trees (particularly Lime for me) didn't have the moisture in the ground for them to give up the nectar. Last year was the first time since moving here that I didn't take any honey in summer and I had to feed the bees going into winter to avoid them starving.

so as far as I'm concerned the rain that we have been having this last week is awesome
Where I'm working theres currently a lot of tree pollen which I reckon is coming off the Scots pine.
It was all over my van today.

I've not been minding it, from a riding point of view. Cold-ish, yes, but dry and often sunny, much of the time, for past few weeks. Heated jacket and grips, off we go.

Cairngorms National Park, so the frozen tundra that is Scotland and not really comparable with English weather. But even then, heavy snow in May! :wtf:

We had sleet here yesterday, only briefly, but it was there.

Dull fact: the only tundra in the UK is on Shetland. It really is noticeably different and interesting to visit.

Not sure it was even that when I was cycling in to work around 7. Cars were all frosted up and took me ages to warm up!

Spring is late, I've been riding on the Downs at Easter many years ago (riding a 26inch wheeled V braked rigid MTB for carbon dating) and it was so hot I ran out of water and got horrifically sun burnt. Not this year. Definitely dryer than most springs though. Hardly a drop of rain in April but many frosts and -3C commutes to work with heated gloves and grips ON. My new HELD mesh jacket is staying firmly in the cupboard.

Weather bod had just popped on TV with useless fact, Leuchars for April 3mm rain, May so far 39mm rain !

I think you've become disillusioned after last year.
In 2020 the Uk enjoyed a bright and warm spring, followed by an exceptional summer.

2021 was always going to be a disappointment after that !

It's snowing again today. And since it's after April, the heating in the building has been turned off. I'm colder than I'd like for being indoors :( :(

I remember snow falling during the Senior TT one year in the early 80s. Mick Grant broke down early on, raced back to Douglas to get the race stopped 'for rider's safety'. My arse. The weather was improving by that time and when the race was re-run later in the week, quess who won? Mick Grant.

You like where you live, I get that and its great that you do.
I'm just not that much of a fan of hot countries and generally think we have it about right here.

Other peoples opinions differ though.

We’ve spent the last week on a boat on the broads. Weather was good overall, warm in the sun and cold out of it. Handed the boat back on Tuesday morning so timed it pretty well!

I don't like hot so much. I just hate cold and wet.

I can wear t-shirt and shorts every day. And can ride my bike every day.
