FUN engine was different, mate has just got his old RG125 running after 20 years. Afternoon All,
Hope you are all keeping well!
Managed to get a little bit of time into the RG Over the last couple of weeks which has been good. Back in May, I had just finished a cursory look over the top end and then play stopped when our new addition arrived early and its been chaos since then! The other arrival in my life in the form of an S1000RR and also my trusty RGV have taken up some time also but its been good to get stuck back into this again for a bit.
So top end-wise, the cylinder will need to go for replating - Its not in too bad a state, but for the cost it is a worthwhile option.
New Piston kit needed, and I have a replacement used Powervalve assembly for use on the rebuild. Also needs new studs, bolts (Both absolutely mangled), head and base gaskets.
The bottom end has now had an inspection, and although a bit of a mess externally - Everything seems to be where it should be and doing what it should do which is a pleasant surprise. Clutch serviceable, crank & bottom end bearings ok, and all gears in good condition. The case has been split before, and was then resealed using some awful blue instant gasket which makes me wonder whats gone on in there - But as it stands all looks good....
I've cleaned up the case the best I can and at some point the generator and clutch covers will be stripped and repainted. Starter motor still waiting to be tested which I will get on to at some point.
With the engine inspection just about complete and a to do list in place, it was onto the chassis....
Wheels are ok, tyres unused but 8 Years old. Bearings knackered, Cush rubbers I hope are serviceable. Tyres need scrapping and then the wheels need fully stripping, powder coating (Ill do the same as on my RGV) and then rebuilding with new bearings and tyres..
Forks are in a poor state, Need a full rebuild with new springs, oil & Seals, some snapped bolts that require drilling and the stations are in need of a re-plate. Then once all that is completed the lowers will need stripping and painting.
Brakes..... Well this picture pretty much sums it up.
Steering head is now off and ready for the yokes to be cleaned up and repainted before the rebuild. I'm not quite sure how long the headstock bearings had been in there for but the grease had turned into a semi solid paste....
So that's pretty much where I am at right now, still a lot of work on the jobs list whilst I get through the strip down and I have no doubt there will be a few more eye opening finds as I get through the chassis. Its been a fun start to the project however, and I am definitely relishing the challenge of getting this back to at least a respectable condition.

The mad Mrs.Skub house project is spilling over into garage 'improvements' and I'm already shitting bricks at the thought of people fucking with my stuff,so adding many bits of a project in there would send my stressometer into meltdown.
My world needs order and stability.

I'll add an R6 project to that too. Two fucked up Yamaha's will keep you busy for a while.
