Look forward to the ride reports. They should put the 890 motor in the 690 sm imo :mrgreen:

Yes but

Fuel capacity 12 litres

Bike weight 212kg

Along with Aprilia reliability and build quality issues, also not forgetting it just didn't look that good

I don't think that photo does the Aprilia justice, i have always thought it's a great looking bike just heavy and underpowered apparently. I wouldnt buy one personally and I'm with Harry on the Ktm comparison :) I really struggle with how the modern Ktm's look.
I think the weight thing can be deceiving, when you push my hyper round it feels like a tank compared to a 690/701 but it's super agile when you ride it, could be the lightweight wheels maybe? Obviously its nothing like a proper moto.

Yup can imagine, and I thought the 790 might have that limitation as a tourer too when I got it, as it only has 14l.

I've never managed to get more than 12-odd in mine, but it is so fuel-efficient that gives an effective 150-mile range and is plenty for the sort of bikes my mates have, and with the addition of the little sports screen it turned out to be a quite brilliant little tourer 8-)
This is the trip summary from my blat up to and around the Highlands and back last year- my mates were on an S1000R and current model ZX10, the little 790 was never at the back and almost always at the front, so this figure was with the throttle near the stop for a lot of those miles
How the 790 manages to be so good on fuel beats me , although in fairness mine was "Hilltop-ed", so I guess that must have been it :D

I had one a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed it, except for the range. Fuel light would come on at 60-65 miles and it's not like there's a petrol station every few miles in the North Pennines. I had no issues with reliability but I had it less than a year and it was a fair weather toy

i thought it looked ok as well, certainly no worse than any KTM I've seen ;)

I've ridden a couple of 790s, a loaner from the shop and GP's at Pembrey (TYVM!). Very impressive machine though I felt it was a bit prone to pitching on high speed direction changes. Maybe a consequence of very light steering. Ugly as sin but I guess you don't look at the mantelpiece when you're stoking the fire (as a mate used to say on a slightly different subject). Does anyone need an extra 100cc? No, definitely not, it's already way too fast and too loony for the road, 100cc more won't really change that, but for the "must-haves" no amount of extra spending is too much. And it does mean there should be some reasonably priced 790s out there as the space cadets trade up ;)

Due to then knocking out 790s at £6999 new, the used market is taking a bit of a hammering for them
