they have these Wera, which would be nice for both home and trackday use...
If you like Wera I'd highly recommend this little set - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I8MYMT2 ... TF8&psc=1

FWIW I think that Snap-On is overrated despite owning quite a few expensive bits myself. Had no end of problems in the past getting damaged equipment replaced.

Set of T handle spinner sockets is nice, a decent ratchet with fine teeth also.
I have a Gearwrench one thats particularly sweet without being Snap On prices.
Mind, I do have a hard handle stubby ratchetting screwdriver bit holder made by Snap On (my second cos I lost the first) and thats pretty much the nicest I've ever used by a long way.
Short so gets into tight spaces and easy to carry.

Doesn't look much but I lost the first one (can't complain cos I found it in the first place) I had and every other manufacturers versions I used just pissed me right off to the point where I bought another.

One for me but I doubt many on here would value as much is my Veritas Low Angle Blockplane. It's a joy to hold and use.

Or what about a Park Tool Bike stand?

Bit left field, but rather than a proper tool, what about something like a high end leatherman stylee multi-tool or a posh Swiss army knife.

It'll always be useful and something you can keep close-ish (within blade carrying laws). Might even be useful when out on the push-iron too. Could even get it engraved.

I've got a couple of pseudo ones already. They're not the Leatherman but they're decent enough. I do carry one on my MTB yeah

For most people a cheap multimeter is more than good enough, most people use them for continuity testing and seeing if they've got 12volts, unless you're repairing electronics a cheap one will more than do the job

Not a garage tool but a Kitchen tool. For my 50th birthday I got a Tojiro Senko 18cm Chefs knife. It gets used every day more than any garage tool and makes cutting a joy. For Xmas two of my daughters clubbed together and got me a matching pairing knife.

What about a decent Clarke impact driver, or a cordless one, track day and home use if you’ve got hub nuts to crack??

FUnny you mention it as i've got a front sprocket one on the ZX6R that won't come off currently... But i've needed an impact driver twice in 20 years...

Whilst i do need one, it's not something i'd use daily and look at etc.

I was a Snap-on dealer for 9 years and still have a good relationship with the guy that covers this area.

Snap-on do a T handled ratchet screwdriver and it's definitely the most used of any of my kit. Not cheap at £70 odd but they are so good, a now ex of mine asked for one as a gift and it is literally the first and only tool* she owns !

As mentioned earlier - and ABBA skylift will make life much easier. I bought the simple one 25 years ago - have just added the extensions that allow me to lift the whole bike and it brilliant.
TBH - even expensive T bar handle stuff is not that expensive ...
Torque wrenches ( now I have started using them ) are a great addition.

How about a lathe ?? :-)

I was thinking that a good Fluke (or similar) is something that you wouldn't necessarily buy yourself, but which you'd appreciate every time you picked it up.

One of my favourite tools is a no 3 Thor copper-hide mallet, A cheap plastic mallet would do the same job, but the Thor a joy to use, and it was a gift from someone special. :)

For me a 50th present tool needs to be something that you wouldn't normally buy yourself, doesn't need batteries or a power supply so is not going to break and something that can be passed down as a family heirloom. I have a really nice set of Irwin chisels I got from my Dad, they are an heirloom tool. My daughter just got her first flat I have passed onto her a chisel I bought, a portable vice and a pair of pliers I got from my dad

My family say I am a pain to buy presents for, especially tools as most of the stuff I want (generally under £200)I just go out and buy. Like the Thor No 3 copper-hide mallet I got a few weeks ago and not yet used :)

If you don't fancy a Kitchen knife like I suggested above. What about a vice I still have a small Record one my dad gave me as a present but also amuch bigger one I refurbed myself.
