Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Cut gate is a nationally famous mtb route in the high peak.
https://flattyres-mtb.co.uk/route-guide ... /cut-gate/
21 miles, about 3,000 foot of climbing. Unless you are at national level cross country racer fitness it's a day's ride on an Amish bike.
Awesome views at the top...
On my Trek e-mtb it took me less than 3 hours. No "hike a bike" or pushing, rode the whole thing. Still got to stop and take in the scenery and do everything I'd do on Amish bike (other than vomit, copiously, about half way up the climbs)...
...and then I was able to tag the Ladybower Loop on....
https://flattyres-mtb.co.uk/route-guide ... ower-loop/
...with a change of battery.
So, I was out for the same length of time as I would have been on Amish bike. I worked at the same intensity for the same duration but got to go twice as far and experience twice as much scenery and riding.
I think that anyone who doesn't see the benefit of that is being deliberately obtuse.

It's like an old Dad joke, if I have to explain it half a dozen times then you're not going to get it anyway. Which is fine.millemille wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 12:16 pm Cut gate is a nationally famous mtb route in the high peak.

As for the Amish thing, pathetic. Not all cyclists are fat and unfit.

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
But of course I’m not a cyclist and I don’t ride a cycle for fitness or as a fitness test. I ride for the pure fun of 2 wheels and the adrenaline buzz speed gives that’s itweeksy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 10:10 pmI still just don't get it, not at all. This is a bicycle lol. Not a MX bike. I did 4 hours today, some stops, sone cake, 40km of mud. My battery had issues too, but the cake fixed that.Couchy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 9:56 pm Had 3 hours on the ezesty today, first couple with kids but some hills and pushing the kids up in full power mode. Then a ride to work and back again full power. This time I flattened the battery at 15.2 miles. Seems about right for a 250wh battery as the 625wh battery on the whyte lasts 40 or so miles being sensible....or 20 not.
Had second battery in backpack and it took longer to take back pack off than it did to swap battery
I get the adrenaline thing of course, but all day, every day, every minute, every trail, just seems bizarre.
For me you're 100% missing everything I love about cycling. I can't see any way you'll ever get it from my context though, so trying to persuade you would be daft.
I also have a knee issue I can’t ignore so the ebike is perfect

I'm not saying it's all about fitness. That's a beneficial side effect of it.Couchy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 6:55 pmBut of course I’m not a cyclist and I don’t ride a cycle for fitness or as a fitness test. Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Lol I’m not sure what you are saying then, I enjoyed a trail ride and then went home. I saw more countryside than if I was on a meat powered bike. Tbh if I was on a normal bike I wouldn’t be there as my knee gives up after a certain time, the ebike means I stay out longer as I can add the assist as I feel the pain.weeksy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 21, 2021 7:03 pmI'm not saying it's all about fitness. But I do love a trail ride and timed at that as it adds to the fun, a normal ride in the country comes second to that

I guess, it's not always a trackday, sometimes it's just a 40mph cruise to cake shop and sitting on a hill in silence looking at the world.Lol I’m not sure what you are saying then,

You'll love this... but it does kinda prove my point a little too.
Warner rides ebikes a LOT.... and struggled with the blue climb at QECP massively....

15m35s the funny bit, tbh it's the difference between those that like exercise and those that like riding, I like the latter

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Rob freely admits to hating pedalling bikes and only does it under sufferance, he has done all his career (to the point of refusing to race, or deliberately crash out/suffer mechanicals, on DH courses that he thought were too pedally) and has zero fitness when compared to his ability. He freely admits to using ebikes so that he can get to the bits he enjoys without having to put any effort in, he's using it like a trials motorbike (which is his first love). If you asked Rob if he wanted to go for a ride for the sake of going for a ride he'd tell you to fuck off...

If you replace Rob with Couchy in that, you're not far off

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
It’s all about the fun and speed dude. If I was allowed to run an electric motorbike on mtb trails I’d be all over it. As it is an ebike I have to pedal is my only option

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Bit of an uodate. Fitted a 170mm kit to the whyte ebike and it’s made it even better. It’s very playful now on any trail and the ride is superb. Local trail centre opened the red route last week so popped a couple of fast laps in. Good enough to claim the KOM so was a good pace. Having issues at that pace with the front end grip and confidence. In an effort to understand I took the ezesty for a ride, first a non assisted lap and then some time in ebike mode. The front end is superb loads of grip and feel so I’ve swapped forks between the two to try them out. More for fun but it’ll be interesting. The red lap on pedal power was 48mins and 9mph average, the red in full fat ebike was 35mins !.
Was interesting on the ezesty as it’s more fun on downhills, you just can’t feel the weight of the bike compared to the whyte. It’s not as fast up or on the flat so those bits are a bit boring but downhill it’s great. For a long days ride the ezesty could be better with 2 batteries. Range is settling at 15 miles a battery. Of course the sheer speed of the whyte is addictive, I haven’t a favourite yet as they’re both quite different but used in the same places

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Brief update, took the whyte to bike park Wales and in the morning it was superb, stable and very playful. But a lapse of concentration saw me too high on a berm, the video looks comedy but it was around 15mph and I dropped 6’ or so, full armour, full face helmet but 2 broken ribs and massive bruising to lhs and a cut arm. Helmet ruined but bike is ok A few weeks off before a ride up snowdon

Ouch GWS, sounded painful

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Healing fine and riding gentler stuff, I’ve still got my whyte FS but wanted a HT on fast rolling tyres for the commute and local first tracks. Bought a specialized turbo levo HT. pretty cheap for an ebike but basic components. First ride showed the forks were garbage, suntour spring rubbish. Found some rockshox Judy 130mm travel instead of the suntour 100mm. Fitted them and a suspension post. The bike is now superb. Rides fast and has as much speed/range as the whyte despite a smaller battery and less torque. For local stuff and some off road I’m preferring it to the FS bike. 80 miles last week commuting and a few more just riding

Re: Commuting ebike / My ebikes
Nice anorak too
I'd completely missed all this stuff, and didn't realize you (@Couchy ) had bashed yourself up a bit, but good to hear you're mended, or well on the mend at least.
What prompted me to look in here was I've just got back from a ride on the Bossnut - rather embarassingly , it's only the first time on it since BPW a year or whenever ago it was that I bought it off you - I've had a foot injury for the last couple of months so haven't been running, and when I did go back to it a few days ago it was really tough, so the pedal bike is a nice and relatively easy way to bring my fitness level back up again as absolutely everywhere is a bloody great big hill around here, and that makes most runs quite tough
Anyway, after I put some air in the tyres, bike was tip-top, I was only out for an hour or so but got a real sweat on and really enjoyed it, so going to be doing more of it over the coming weeks- am definitely putting some narrower bars on it though, or more likely just taking the hacksaw to the ends- don't understand how you boys put up with bars that wide!
Oh and going to find myself some decent and appropriate shorts, my Next thick cotton ones were horrible and clingy by the time I got back
