Back when RGVs were new fangled and over 5 grand, you could buy an LC for less than 300 quid.
Can't say I've ever seen those sub ï¿¡300 LCs. Doubt Ive seen one less than ï¿¡600 or so. Might have been a local bike market thing I guess.
I liked the look of LCs (I had an 84 XJ550 with much the same paintjob and spiral cast wheels) but realistically preferred Powervalves.

My first LC was exactly 275 quid, I bought an absolute beaut out of the local Honda dealer for 600 back in 94, back in those days they were still learner bikes in NI. The old air-cooled stuff you couldn't give away, I swapped a crappy Stratocaster copy for an RD250, the points one.
Powervalves were much rarer. I think I only ever saw half a dozen in the flesh and I bought 2 of them.
Oddly enough, back then there seemed to be a lot more back street bike shops and a lot fewer bikes about.

In 20 years time, folk will be saying the new GSXR bikes are shit.
The 2018 GSXR1000 is far better than the shite they produce now.
Look at the prices on EBay.
Etc etc etc

Yup it's how the classic market works. It's even worse IMO with cars.
Although I don't think anyone is saying a Gixxer 11 is better than anything now (or even then) it's an irrational want. Normally driven by wanting one when you couldn't have one, and it now being in reach. Or having something years ago and wanted some of it back for the memories (sadly doesn't include the beer capacity, body shape, hair or freedom you had then though)

If you want a GSXR1100 buy one, if you want to go round corners on it but either the slabby or the water cooled one, the Slingshots really just want to go in straight lines, they are properly quick though, with tons of mid range, the engine is definitely as good as an early R1, an SRAD may have a higher top speed, but you can't put it in top gear at 30mph, crack the throttle open and it accelerates to 150 smoothly.
Pay what you can afford for one, the bargain is the WP, so long as you don't want to tune it as there isn't much tuning stuff for them.
Speak to Chris Tombleson at Grumpy 1260 about them, what he doesn't know about them isn't worth knowing, he might have one for sale.
The least I paid for an LC was £200 for an ex race 250 engine in a 350 rolling chassis.
The most £2200 for my current YPVS, which is also ex race and a bit of a shed - but I do like a tatty looking LC

Looks like 80's Knockhill.
Yup, used to go to most of the Scottish Championship meetings during the mid to late 80's and always had a camera with me as taking pics of some of the lower ranked racers and handing them out a few weeks later used to get me free passes to get in
Late 80's when i was a courier a lot of the bike couriers from Glasgow would go as a group and occupy the area at the end of the bottom straight into the hairpin. Little collection of radio equipped and logo'ed up BMW, CX500's and Bedford Rascal vans

Did 80s bike designers have to pay by the curve or something? Did they use their whole budget up on the wheels?

Lol, never really thought about it but now you mention it they were all fairly angular (thinking about Fz750. GPz range from 305 to 1100 etc) and then the GPz600R and RD500LC came along with some more curves starting to come in

That is a couple of RD500 to the right is it not? Only ever seen one in the metal and that was Hall Ings Bradford in 84/5
Correct, they were fairly rare at the time but a race track bike park was always the place to find them as the place was littered with the latest race replica exotica like the RD, RG500 and assorted GSXR.
I cant find the photo anymore but i do have a pic somewhere of about a dozen RD500LC's in a storage area for a collection owned by a bloke i know who sells one every now and again to keep the prices constant as he buys up every one he finds as a future pension fund amongst many other rare bikes. He has , for example, 4 NR750's currently selling at 70,000 to 80,000 a piece when they ever come up

They used to be fairly common at Boxhill in the late 80s, they're a bit of an overweight tourer, the 350 is a better bike.
In 2000 a mate of mine had two RG500s, neither of them cost him much, from memory he also had a TZR250, an NSR250 and an Aprillia RS250

I've seen a few bikes at that shop that interested me, but something I couldn't put my finger on made me wonder what the shop was like. Seems maybe my spidey senses were right.
