Aber is fine, bikes used to meet at the bus station, I don't know if they still do, the Waitrose used to have a very nice cafe.
The A40 from Ross to Aber is fun if you're going fast enough, though last time I rode it was on an R1 26 years ago.

Noticed that Baffle Haus place is near Aber too. I was thinking for some of the ride to Wales using the A40 as the M4 isn't happening, so maybe A40/parallel routes taking in South of Cotswolds. Also thinking starting at On Yer Bike near Aylesbury as easy for everybody.

The group thing might be falling apart trying to get a date, so decided worse case I'll go on my Tod or my Dad said he wants to come so that'd be nice either way. The more Wales riding vids I watch it looks like its hard to get bad roads as such Brecon up. Will head to the coast at somepoint too cos I is on me holidees init.

Agreed, especially the bit just between Gloucester & Ross, but the Ross to Abergavenny is pretty dull dual carriageway, has anyone tried the B4521 Old Ross Road instead?

Ha ha, that was my argument for heading to the south of France instead of staying in UK like Mrs dB wanted, we had snow hail the fucking works in mid May

If you fancy a much smaller, twisty, and challenging in places road, Tregaron to Beulah is a good 'un.

Welsh National Rally (scatter rally, aka treasure hunt) is on again this year, btw. Early May. Entries still open.

I did the Welsh National Rally in 2007, you want a bike that's all day comfortable, has a good fuel range that's happy on small roads - not a stupid Husqvarna supermoto, the only thing good about was the happy on small roads bit, I spent most of the day finding petrol.

The V85TT fitted the bill nicely, last weekend. I didn't need its 280 mille range, though, as they've made the awards simpler, and I got a gold by only riding 185 miles. Contrast that with the Southwest Peninsula rally, where I was awarded a bronze for a similar mileage.
