My daily shoes are a pair of McBride boots...

they're my 6th pair of Loakes and they've taken by far the longest to break in, but now they're pretty comfortable.


I've been wearing the Lanx boots for work this last week, the 'shoe' part has broken in really well, no rubbing or nipping, however the top edge is really rubbing above my ankle, I hope they soften up a bit.

I bought my last pair of shoes in 2007 for my wedding. £40 from Next. Still got them, wear them at least twice a year.

I'm the only person at work who wears proper shoes... and chinos and button down collared shirts.

In fact I specifically only wear oxford style shirts without pockets. I hate a shirt pocket.

I have a couple of pairs of Loake 1880 tan brogue shoes (leather soles for summer, rubber for winter) and a pair of their (made in India) desert boots. I like the fit of Loakes and they've all have been comfy from day 1.

(I also have a stack of my old (black) work shoes that I don't wear apart from 'suit days' - matchings, hatchings and despatchings. Can't bring myself to Vinted them. Church's mainly but there's Grensons with Dainite soles for rainy days too. The Church's are the only ones that were made in different widths and they just got better and better as the years went by. Weren't cheap when I got them but prices now are just ridiculous - they got taken over by Prada so that's inevitable - £700 for 'sneakers' and up to £1k-ish for a pair of brogues. £250 for a pair of s/h ones from Oxfam. Fashion houses eh? What are they like?

Sadly I'm very similar - I dress much the same despite most wearing trainers and polos

I've 4 pairs of Loake's - 2 pair if shoes and 2 pairs of boots.

Both pairs of shoes were comfy from day 1 - 1 pair were 1880's and the others Loake Design. The 1st set of boots took literally months to break-in, almost dumped them at one stage but now are like slippers, the new boots feel promising though...

We don't have a dress code at work and most wear jeans and Tees, but I wear a polo as it feels odd not having some sort of collar on at work. I have no idea why i feel that way though, as its really not needed?

I’m due to buy some new shoes, first time since Jan 2019 when I bought three identical pairs of Goodwin Smith brogues, tan, brown and black. I have worn out the tan ones, the black are well on their way out and the sole has become detached from the rest of the shoe at the heel on the brown ones.

Previously I bashed through shoes reasonably quickly due to wearing them 9-5 5 days a week, now I spend most of the day in trainers or without any footwear. Suits now last years (saving them becoming too large regularly over last 12 month) rather than being disposed of after a few months of constant wear.

I’ve got a pair of Design by Loake (more contemporary style / made in India) which are half a size too big so I’m planning on using some time off next week to find a decent shoe shop nearby to try on before buying this time…

I was given some sound advice about 'work shoes' years ago - don't wear the same pair on consecutive days. Let 'em rest and air between shifts. Worked for me Got business shoes that were re-soled several times so they got plenty of use. (The old, v traditional cobbler* that I used wrote the date of the work inside the shoe in biro and he was running out of space ) and they were still in really good nick when I quit.

* He said it was always nice to see me 'I like working on proper shoes'

Thanks, worth bearing in mind, I’m lucky / unlucky if I’m in shoes more than a couple of times a week. The Loakes are leather soled / Goodyear welted and were purchased with the intention of re-soling as necessary but they are a poor fit so see very little use, which is a shame.

Do any of you use shoe trees? I’m tempted

Work: chinos, button shirt and collar. No tie anymore but usually a jacket.

Yeah, I have a few cedar wood ones for the smart shoes. Never bothered with them in anything else.I think they helped keep them in tip-top shape, hard to tell tbh.
