I don't know about 20 years ago but the Transit Custom I bought 12 years ago cost the same as a new 5 series.
I could see the change happening then, Vitos were still the old box on wheels but the just released Transit Custom was like sitting in a premium car.

This is an L4 Transit, although doesn't have air-con or cruise, so is the lowest model i expect, but looks great value to me in truth.

I found a van, got it for £5800 from the £6000 advertised.
Transit Connect LWB (perfect size for me) with 110k miles on it. Well equipped / decent interior.
Ideally wanted something with less miles but it's had one previous owner, full service history and it's generally in very good condition (best I saw by a long stretch in this price bracket).

Had it a week now and it's so much nicer to drive than my old van (previous generation connect) quieter and better mpg. I'll try a bit harder not to blow this one up :thumbup:
