I miss him as well. It just serves to show how little we really know about each other (not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, mind)... At another forum I was a member of, they had a server outage that lasted literally months. When the lights came back on, one enterprising chap harvested all our personal contact details (with everyone's agreement, obvs) so we could stay in touch outside the forum structure if the server went south again.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Re: New Year's Resolutions?
TBF he gave out enough shit if anyone opposed him! He was very binary in his views and evangelistic about EVs with no consideration to anyones elses point of view. It was basically his view or no view. That said, I certainly wish him no harm and hope he's well, but c'mon, to say he was getting shit from people and intimatimng he was bullied is pushing it a bit, to say the least. He was no shrinking violet with his views!!Rockburner wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 10:30 pmGiven the shit he was getting from the extreme political posters when he was posting reasonably politely (if somewhat bantery), i reckon he just gave up on the forum to be frank.Count Steer wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 9:37 pmNobody knows. That should be mine. You are lucky if i did 1500 miles since i got the think. As my work is more summer orientated i dont get much time but looking to work less weekends this year so should get out more.KungFooBob wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 12:34 pm Ride my motorcycles more... should be an easy one, I'd struggle to ride them less than 2025.

I don't think he was top ten material when it came to argumentative assholery. His campaign for EV's didn't phase me at all because I think they're a fucking joke.Taipan wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 11:45 pmTBF he gave out enough shit if anyone opposed him! Problem is that some people sign up with an email that becomes defunct or is a 'sacrificial spam-magnet' one so the info held by the board is little help.mangocrazy wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 11:33 pm I miss him as well. I always found him pretty balanced and not particularly evangelistic about anything. Given he works in EV tech, I guess his info may sound evangelistic but it's actual tech info from someone that should know - which I found really interesting. I also read it quite a bit of his stuff as tongue in cheek because others were so anti. But maybe that's cos I do try to find humour and kindness in life in general - it's fucking depressing otherwise
On the political stuff, I have bailed on a few threads that I used to read because they gave me info I could balance, but they've turned into personal attacks between different people so I quit reading. A shame because I liked having different view points, just don't have the emotional bandwidth to deal with all the bastwittery that goes on.

The difference is he wasn't ever properly insulting to anyone, bantery yes, like we all are to each other, but he wasn't ever directly insulting, but got lots of unwarranted personal insults back.
And if he was sticking to his arguments, well it wasn't any different to any of his opponents sticking to their arguments and refusing to compromis their positions, so I don't see that being a particularly valid reason to disparage him.
Like you say, i hope he's ok, i don't have any contact details for him any more (i don't think) so can't check in.

Anyway, like most of us, I'd like to see him back, or at least know he's okay, as he was in hospital with back problems recently, iirc?

Re: New Year's Resolutions?
I thought he was a beacon of logic and intelligence and a paragon of kind, well reasoned perspective.
Maybe because I agreed with pretty much everything he said! But I think regardless that's what he was.
I hope he's ok and I hope he comes back here.

And tell me who, among the current main contributors to the forum, this could not equally be said about? EVs were Dazzle's fixation, for others it's politics and they are equally trenchant and fixated in their attitude.Taipan wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 11:45 pm TBF he gave out enough shit if anyone opposed him! Re: New Year's Resolutions?
Not really a fixation, pretty sure he worked in R&D for EV tech - or for a company that produced EVs, so more a job with a lot of knowledge rather than a fixation (although I guess it could irritate those that are anit EVs!)mangocrazy wrote: Fri Jan 02, 2026 12:52 pmAnd tell me who, among the current main contributors to the forum, this could not equally be said about? Doesn't matter who, or the subject, its simply that if you give out strong opinions, you can expect to get them back!mangocrazy wrote: Fri Jan 02, 2026 12:52 pmAnd tell me who, among the current main contributors to the forum, this could not equally be said about? Re: New Year's Resolutions?
TBH, I don't think i've ever seen or noticed him getting a personal attack? But he is quite dismissive of people that dont see EVs the way he does, so maybe he ruffled someone's feathers? I'd just be surprised if he left over such a thing, as he always struck me as someone who could stand his own corner?Noggin wrote: Fri Jan 02, 2026 3:40 pmBut, he just gave opinions, never did the verbally attacking as other here do, so I don't see why he should incurr any of that (although I almost never see a trigger for most of the posts that have put me off that section)Taipan wrote: Fri Jan 02, 2026 3:38 pmDoesn't matter who, or the subject, its simply that if you give out strong opinions, you can expect to get them back!mangocrazy wrote: Fri Jan 02, 2026 12:52 pm

TBH it's more likely that he got bored with presenting verifiable data and research, making cogent arguments, pointing out research results had been twisted and misquoted etc etc by people who think that what they'd like to be true must be true.
Anyway, he's gone.

But, I just don't see him as someone who would be intimidated by it enough to leave here. He seemed more than capable of dealing with it? Strong opinions get strong opinions back and I suppose it does get wearing though?

I suspect he made a choice about the latter. (Iirc he made a couple of noises about it sometime before he disappeared)
