Punctures…

Several when I was commuting into Birmingham city centre back in the day. Every one I'd clearly pick something up on the way in without noticing, and leave work to find a pancaked tyre.

Can only remember one while out touring in France, not my bike but we repaired it with a temporary plug and inflated with one of those mini air canisters. I remember being well impressed with the kit.

Cars though - ugh - especially around here in the sticks, I've picked up so many punctures, particularly last year - across various vehicles (including the quad and the mower), we had ten punctures in the first four months IIRC. Including scrapping a tyre with only 1000 miles on it

In tubeless tyres on bikes, a couple.

One of which resulted in me and the Beemer bouncing along the hard shoulder of the M3.

That was actually a good outcome, as I'd slowed to about 30. Was doing about 80 when the puncture happened (2" long steel pin) and the rear wheel was going so far sideways, side to side, I had the bars from full lock side to side.

Beancounter attracts punctures like flies on a fresh cowpat on a hot day. Think his record for puncture repairs in one tyre is 6 would have been more but i've seen more tread on a boiled egg.

I could only think of only two and they were slows in almost 40 years since i passed my test. In the early to mid 90's i went on a bike tour to the Dolomites and bought a BMW repair kit what has the two little canisters of gas. I still have it up the loft.

Only had a few in 50 odd years, and hundreds of thousands of miles. The Enfield tubed tyres have been treated with Slime stuff. Carry a plug kit and two small air canisters on my other bikes, as they take up so little room. Not had to use one yet.

Had this one a few years ago on a Fireblade. Tyre was only 100 miles old, and although it did not lose any pressure, the tyre had to be scrapped.

What do you guys use for tubeless repairs? I've used stop n go for year but wouldn't mind trying these as get you home job? I'd worry about them blowing back out so it could only be atemp repair.

I remember getting two in a couple of days on the IoM in the early 80's on the LC, both of which had to be patched in situ. Those were the days when I used to carry puncture repair kits with me for inner tubes. Thank Dog for tubeless tyres, I say.

Did I mention I hate inner tubes with a passion?

The mechanic handed me a self tapping screw, said coat it with the rubber cement and screw it in. It'll get you home. It did. And beyond.

When I was dispatching, we all carried self-tappers for that reason. Its kinda why i was drawn to the ones above.

I've done that more than a few times over the years. Never had them fail.

I was always dubious about slime as i worried that it would hide a puncture that was iffy and needed a proper mushroom repair. But , when i got a puncture on my tubed wheel Afria Twin, the bright green slime comes out all over anything it can spray itself over and it's pretty obvious its done its job and you know to check the puncture.

My new bike will get some and just a FYI, if you buy the bottle for bicycles, it is just the right amount for a motorbike back tyre.

Plug n go numrous times over the years, tyres used until near the limit and replaced when worn out as usual, never been a problem with tubeless tyres, tubed fekkers though, gah!

I bought some of these screw things and they taste just like metal to me, not very rubbery.

Update...I messaged the seller telling him of my findings, metal plugs/screws. He's got back to me saying they have a metal core with a rubber outer covering for sealing. Told him the one I bit was metal. In the morning I will check the rest.
I will also check to make sure that it's not just the pointy thread end that's just metal and the wider few mm isn't rubber.

Update...had another look at these plugs this morning and they do have rubber on the inner thread. When you bite them you're biting the metal but the rubber is there. I've sent apologies to the seller for my misunderstanding.

I've never looked forward to getting my next puncture before, you're right. Got one of those small cordless compressor things coming now aswel. My mrs thinks I've got a buying crap of Internet addiction syndrome, think she's right aswel.

Just took delivery of a mini cordless angle grinder, fcuk know why, I've already done the job I wanted it for.
