I was going to tag you as I know you mentioned one in a PM, but i deleted all my PMs recently!Eclipse wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 6:09 pm Free ones are limited in what they can do.
I use Surfshark to watch movies and series online that I couldn't normally watch.
If you get my drift.
Have you got a VPN?

Re: Have you got a VPN?
I have the Starter Package and share the login details with my brother.
It's always on special offer and after the allotted time runs out they try to charge
you the non special offer price, so be ready to cancel it.
After I cancelled mine I signed up again with diff email but same details and got the special offer again.

Yes. I pay for ExpressVPN. It provides me with (false?) reassurance when using unknown wifi and paying for it possibly means they are less likely to sell and captured data.
I'm about as convinced that my reasoning is sound as you are.

Re: Have you got a VPN?
I have tried a few now (CyberGhost, Nord and something else), only cos I like watching Netflix uk, Bake off, Sewing Bee and Strictly.
They've all been pretty useless for me (almost certainly ID 10 T issues but still !!!) - currently have Express and can see all but Channel 4 which is a bit annoying. At some point I'll have to do the chatbot thing and contact them to ask why Channel 4 sees the VPN (despite changing places on it, turning the tablet on and off, and other faffing about stuff).
Now I'm settled somewhere I'm trying to decide if I should see if I can get a sattv set up (but don't really want a huge dish outside) or a hooky Amazon stick or stick with this and just see if I can make it work
Just need a more techy person to come and sort it for me !!

IPVanish. Free ones have limits. I use mine for streaming hooky TV. Its worth having more country options if you are having bad streaming like watching big matches. I lot of ISP's wont allow IPTV hence the VPN. Oh aye 34 quid odds for the year.
Re: Have you got a VPN?
Surfshark here, I think it offers unlimited devices and was a one off payment for 12 months plus 3 or 4 free.
For me it was between these and Nord, I wanted a bit of extra security for the family connecting to free WiFi etc, plus it's great for travelling to access sites blocked or not available in that region.
My reckoning was that these are the big 2 subscription VPN services so the likelihood of one of those selling our data or doing something nefarious is low, being as if they did then they're whole business model as a security service would be blown out of the water.

Digging around* I was surprised to find that Nord and Surfshark are the same company.
*Wondering who owns and where did they raise their capital to get set up.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.
