I grew up beofre the internet and yes, we rode bikes, played in the fields and woods etc blah, but we'd have killed for playstations and the communications they have today. Sadly I also see the isolation it ironically causes and cyber bulling is a worrying thing. On reflection I'll take my childhood over one of todays.

You and me both brother - And on-line gaming and social media (or the lack of control of it) , has a lot to answer for.
There's of course been angry shitheads since the dawn of time, and always will be, but it's mainly the self-entitlement / always got to be someone else's fault / let's get offended on behalf of someone else attitudes of a seemingly growing (in more ways than one too ) of the population that I really despise....

Thankfully not everyone is like that though, and I somehow managed to instill what we'd both probably call old-fashioned values (basically, treat others as you'd like to be treated, take pride in what you do and responsibility for your own actions, or in-actions), in my three offspring, and they've all turned out pretty well, although of course unfortunately none of us can ever guarantee that.

Anyway, that's my annual rant out of the way, I'll get back to the good stuff now!

Life is about happiness or being as happy as you can possibly be. I had a happy childhood, along with all my mates. We had no Internet at home, we did have a football, a bike and a fishing rod. These African kids were happy, no Internet at home either.



Fast forward to the children of the modern world. I need say no more.

The African kids need phones to call me about my recent accident.

Gotta say, most of you lot don't give off strong happiness vibes.

My child of the 2010s on the other hand is all Rainbows.

I didn't point out that most replies were probably posted using their phones.

90s were brilliant. Good music, good drugs, cheap cars that you could fix yourself, cheap two strokes, girls were prettier because they didn't have "influencers" making them want to look like botoxed ducks, less chance of getting your head kicked in by feral youths.

I remember my Dad talking about police baton charging rioting yoofs in Exeter in the 1930s.
In the 50s the teddy boys used bicycle chains and razor because crepe soled brothel creepers didn't do enough damage.

I suppose, and in fairness to the children of the modern world, the primary aged kids still play outside, making ramps for bike jumps, kickin a ball about, whatever, dawn til dusk and it's great to see.

Once they go to secondary school they dissappear, never to be seen again.

FWIW the blades we'ren't taped together, they were separated by a matchstick so the cut was widened and a needed pulled stiching so the resulting scar showed forever. By comparison, a single blade cut is almost surgical and the scar non existent. Nice huh...

S'wot I meant. I thought the tape was to keep 'em snug otherwise the matchstick would fall out.

(If they put them in an actual Stanley knife it'd be a bit of a squeeze....but I have little practical experience in these matters, despite working close by the Millwall ground in the 80s ).

Objectively the past was shit you just forget the bad parts. I think I'm better off now than any time in the past. I might have to remind myself occasionally but fuck going back to coal fires, blackouts, crap medicine etc.
