I have that ceramic spray, it's not what I would call a ceramic coating, if it's that that car dealers are selling as 'ceramic coating' it's no wonder people feel it's rubbish and not lasting more than five minutes.

Clearly anything just sprayed on and polished isn't really a 'ceramic coating'. It might contain eg alumina powder but unless it's baked on like the stuff Mango mentioned or UV cured it's not going to last forever. It's not like they're nitriding the vehicle.

Having said that I reckon the Autoglym full works treatment effect was noticeable for about 3 years (car subsequently valeted about 4 times a year).

I'd have it done on the next one if the dealer offers it.

And there's another level of complication, proper ceramic coating / cerakoting which is baked on and adds material for specific properties, longevity, heat resistance etc, then there's ceramic coating as applied by car detailers with correct surface prep etc (and the
point of this thread IMO) and then silicone / ceramic sprays that dad bod wafts around whilst wearing his slippers every month or 2

Got that as well as the actual ceramic coating (labelled garage use only or some such verbage) & car clearly hadn't been done.

Had my car done two years ago, as it is supposed to reduce damage caused by UV rays. It lives outside and is directly in the sun for the majority of the day, everyday.

Two summers in and water still beads off of it when washed (which isn't often). I was told it should last around 5 years.
