It seems almost automatic...'have some statins'. :(

How about, Step 1 - here's some dietary changes, see if you can stick to that for for 6 weeks and let's see if the bad cholesterol level drops?

The missus has heart fibrillation...'Have some blood thinners and some statins'. The statins, even half dose, made her quite ill. 'Oh, stop taking them'.

On a tangent, and I hope this bit is acceptable. ..he's put you on simvastatin for your cholesterol. That's often the "beginner" statin, cheaper than most, but it can have side effects which might be a problem. In my case, I became aware after a few weeks that I felt "neutered" - best way to describe it. Zero interest in sex. Unusual for me; tho I'm not an uncontrollably horny sort of bloke it had all disappeared, mentally and physically. Testicles had become small, soft and squidgy, no interest in wimmin, no matter how gorgeous.

I had a look at the data sheet, and there is a mention of "sexual difficulties". I had a chat with the Dr, we agreed to change (now on atorvastatin), and within a week everything was back to normal. Rejoicing all round. Well, me and Mrs W anyway.

Something to bear in mind.
My SDad was put on statins and they proper messed his health up. I wasn't over there and don't know exactly how but it wasn't just lack of interest in life and the universe, they made him ill. He came off them against the doctors advice and felt better but then did a ton of research about cholesterol and BP and diet. He manages his health mostly by diet now and has never looked so fit and healthy!!

Some doctors just look at all cholesterol as bad, but that isn't the case; so a high cholesterol level of a good one would be treated the same as a bad one - but shouldn't be.

100% worth doing your own investigations about meds. I cheat. If I have a blood test I tend to call SDad to chat about them before I go to the Doc to talk about them :D :D

When I first started talking to doctors up here about menopause, I saw a locum one day who was young and totally unsympathetic and prescribed something to take to 'find out' if I was in menopause or not (she didn't see the value of the blood test results I had that the other doctor had asked for). On researching the drug was not for that and would cause 'discomfort' at best. So I didn't take them and didn't see her again!!!

Not all GPs know much about all the health conditions. You do really need to know about your condition and the drugs suggested. Or find a GP that specialises/a specialist

It seems that too many GPs think that Statins are a magic solution - but they seem to be quite dangerous for an awful lot of people!!

Glad you posted that. One of the many tablets I have for breakfast is simvastatin, I put my lowering of interest down to other things but that’s got me thinking. Might give the quacks a bell later to ask if I can change tablets.
Thank you.
Mick
I have been on atorvastatin for around 10 years....they might get put aside for a couple of months to see if the interest returns.....

Yeah, I don't normally get exercised about 'big pharma' but they've done a real job on the medical profession with statins. Cures everything, no side effects  (and people take them for years and years). Kerrrbloodyching!

(They even had one 'reputable American' medic suggesting that everyone would/should take them as a prophylactic against heart disease. How about taking the unnecessary added sugar and fat out of everything first? Then maybe they wouldn't need to feed the population with statins).

Ooh...I've found a 'thing that Bs my P!!

Bike insurance renewal letter arrived - grudgingly opened it in anticipation of the usual dull phone-call to express my disappointment at the increase...annnnd it's cheaper than last year.

Check they haven't changed the underwriter and stripped off all the little sub clauses.

After a crap week today it's been the little things;

- Finding half a tube of silicone squirrelled away, so that's the new outdoor solar lights put up that I've been meaning to do for weeks.
- Finding half a bottle of fuel stabiliser that I thought I'd lost, so that's in the bike now as barring some freak weather I reckon the season is about done.
- Having to go into town for half an hour to pick up lunch and petrol to top the bike off and being quite happy to leave the garage door up knowing everything will be fine and still there when I get back.
- Getting 101 disapproving looks whilst riding through town in my shorts, it's stupid, it's petty, but it makes me smile.

I (a little nervously) went back to the other campsite. When she joined us, she couldn't make eye contact and I felt terrible, I thought I was going to have a full on panic attack and I considered just leaving. Instead I downed my beer and plowed into the next one. Fate left us sat next to each other and I was able to break the tension with a couple jokes / quips. 20 minutes later we were chatting away merrily and I was very relieved to tell her "I'm glad we can be mates". About an hour later she said "I'm going to go home soon, you should follow me shortly afterwards, don't wait too long, I might fall asleep, if I do fall asleep, just let yourself in".

I was replacing the discs and pads on my car today, noticed there was a plastic cover / lid missing behind the fogs in the arch liner.

Looked up the part number on the internet - ebay was between £9 & £15, amazon had it, too, at a tenner. Phoned BMW on a whim and it's £3.20, available next day.

Anyone done the route?

https://detour-roadtrips.com/home/detou ... -best-road

Interesting concept, "the Avis Driving Ratio (ADR) scale of 10:1 – 10 seconds on a straight compared to one second on a bend "
We used that quite a few times this Summer when on Holiday nearby just outside Lamego.
No bike unfortunately, only a hire car, there were some fantastic roads and views in the whole Duoro valley. I would love to have a few days touring around there on a bike.
It may also become more popular when Fast and Furious 10 gets released as they were filming that in the area when we were there in July.

In fact i think that is the N222 alongside the river in this photos.

I watch Mat Armstrong on youtube and he often says main dealers often turn out to be cheaper for stuff!

In case you didn't know, a lot of BMW dealers do discounts for certain forums, e.g. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1205159

Tayna batteries. Needed an aux battery for my Merc but couldn't see it on their site. Rang them up and the it turns out battery was original and has had the part number changed since then. He knew this buy x-reffing and then got me one cheaper than on their website and it'll be here tomorrow! Proper customer service  , unlike Almax...

Does he speak English or French ? I wonder if dogs can be bilingual for given commands.

Getting a reply from the local prefecture -

- they replied within one working day :o :o :o Shock and amazement

The question was, could I apply for a taxi licence with a UK driving licence. I did explain that I've wanted to exchange my licence for the last 3 years but the French rules meant that I couldn't (I can put the application in now, so just need a code for a passport photo and that process will start!!). I'd been told that no one with a UK licence would be given a VTC in the Savoie region. But -

- the email told me that I CAN :D :D Just have to get a document from DVLA and get it translated, and I can apply (that's just a tick box application as, with the correct documents and payment they will send me the VTC :D :D )

Woo and blooming hoo :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:
