All the internet get a bit slow in the seasons. I'm quite lucky as it seems to work ok for me but a mate lives a bit further down, has no phone signal unless he goes out in the car park and hardly any wifi in the winter season. So it'll be huge for him. For me it might just mean I can get a cheaper deal

Took the dressing off of my knee and marveled at the staples! Not something you have to give much thought to normally, but here I am trying to get the knee bending as much as I can whilst the multiple staples do their thing and stop the skin bursting apart. Quite impressive really!

The staples were my worst bit of the repair job they did - hoping they'll use stitches for the removal!

Around 25 years ago a young man left his native Poland to enroll in university in the UK. After completing his course this young man stayed on in England for a few years until he got a job opportunity in France (back when you could).

At first he struggled with the language in France, trying to speak English to everyone he met. It was only when he took the plunge and embraced the French language that he stopped feeling so alone and made lots of new friends. His career (stage rigging and familiarity with working at heights) took off and he went all over the world with his work.

Because he was due to work in Canada for 3 months he asked his Polish mum to come to France to assist with caring for his small children. His mum flew into Beziers yesterday evening and that is where our paths intersected.

I also flew into Beziers yesterday evening with no means of getting from the airport to Pouzolles, except for an A4 sheet of dayglo paper with the text 'Are you going to (or near) Pouzolles?'

This guy, whose name I scandalously failed to remember, saw me hanging around in hope at the airport exit and immediately offered to take me to my village, and subsequently did so.

He lives at least two hours away from Beziers, and would normally take a very different route to the one he took tonight, but he did it because he remembered being a hitch-hiker and knew how it felt.

I am so grateful to him, and the events of this evening have rekindled my faith in human nature and pure random chance.

I made Madeleines this morning. Made the batter last night and baked this morning. First time in 5 years I've managed a successful bake of these bastard little Fronch cakes. I may never make them again, but very very VERY happy to have finally succeeded

I've discovered the Blue Light Card, a discount card for pretty much anyone who has worn a government uniform.
Usually discount cards are only for shops I'd never use it restricted to things I wouldn't buy but this has good blanket discounts for loads of normal shops & restaurants.
For a fiver a year it will pay for itself pretty quick.

Kids totally rock for that! I remember my sister telling me that my nephew smiled at everyone, which shocked some and made some emotional - they were living in the States and with no idea of any discrimination he would give the most amazing smiles to homeless, different colours, cleaners; the sort of people that often feel invisible. It would make her day as well

Also good for a few restaurants and pubs wot do food, and Burger King, not that I eat there much! Remember to use it every time you buy anything online as there’s some surprising discounts to be had!

A wine bottle cork is probably better and safer. Unless you've emptied the bottle immediately before.

A few of us travelled up to a different campsite on saturday to meet up with some old and some new friends.

Great party/ BBQ, by 11pm or so, I was pretty hammered and just having a wee little dance. When out of no-where a very fit young lady basically threw herself at me ! It was very odd and not something I've experienced before! We left the party for a while and came back later!

As a result I spent a lot of yesterday in a daze and kept asking "what the...how the.. fuck did that happen??" After a little digging it would appear she was trying to get back at someone else who was at the party. As it happens, they didn't care as they were too busy trying to cop off with someone else. So I feel used..... but I'm OK with it


Before we returned to the party she told me she was 19!! She asked how old I was and I didn't have the heart to tell her! (46)

Ohh and incase anyone cares. She's Irish and that's another new one for me

Is this happy or piss boiling?

We did the Macmillan coffee morning bake off thing at work yesterday. People bring in home made cakes, they sell for a quid each and all proceeds go to charity blah blah blah...I made Lemon Macaron ("Macaron au Citron" if you're feeling hoity).

I've had three people message me on Teams this morning borderline accusing me of buying them in a shop So now I'm having to explain to people how you make Macaron so I can prove I do know and I can claim my rightful place as Star Baker.
