It's really annoying and I didn't realise it until I was in my late 20's but it's automatic. I don't 'do it' - it just happens and always has. (No idea if I do the same in French - probably not, yet!!)

That's such a small thing to pick up on, my guess is that if people are getting their knickers in a twist about something so little that so many people do without thinking, then they obviously think she has a chance to best the T bloke and so need to find any tiny little thing.

I spent years 0-10 in Bexleyheath, Sarf Lahndan, and when we moved to Stafford one of the kids at school said ' I like your language'... I used to work with a guy from Welling and I loved talking to him (well, listening actually), cos it reminded me of how I used to speak as a kid.
