I guess it's the same for qualifications? AnnoyingHot_Air wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:50 pm Let’s set aside Brexit as it’s done. We left the EU four years ago.
However, the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) is worth debating because it’s due for review next year. The current TCA needs a revamp because it has turned the UK into a rule-taker in all manner of things. We accept EU certification in the UK for everything from medicines to aeroplane pilot licences. But it’s one-way. The EU doesn't accept UK certification.

Any 'sabotaging' seems to be purely down to governmental either a) incompetence and/or b) indecision.irie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 6:32 pm
Soshal meeja innit.
If a highly vocal minority group want to sabotage something then they will using the megaphone politics of soshal meeja while the overwhelming majority of the population don't participate and get on with their lives working and bringing up their families.
I can't see what the average voter has achieved/impacted at all outside of the referendum and election scenarios. Seems odd to accuse them of sabotage.
Secondly, it is not about the "average voter", it is instead about the small minority who exploit the social media megaphone.
This small minority is driving government policy.
And secondly?

I also think that people who disagree with me are hard of thinking and I let them know my opinion in every argument. That way I always win.Lutin wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:46 pmHowever, this is dependant on retaining the free movement of people.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 3:17 pmIt's been largely forgotten that we could have retained access to the single market and customs union while still leaving the EU.
Which the racists and hard of thinking will NOT allow to happen.
Shame really as a lot of hassle would simply vanish into thin air.
Common sense, eh? Where did it go?
You are hard of thinking. You lose, I win. Common sense, innit.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Lates yougov poll puts Reform on level pegging with the Tories at 18% each!
Re: Who Will You Vote For?
It's going to be an interesting time in UK politics because I don't think that the 18% will actually translate into a lot of seats for Reform and then they will be able to lobby for electoral reform and have a significant proportion of the electorate behind them.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Even when we had a referendum on the topic! Everyone seems to have forgotten that one. I think there was another more significant referendum a while later?

Didn't UKIP garner roughly the same percentage of votes, but won no seats? FPTP system, innit.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
I hate the Tories personally.
I can't really think of any good they've done for the country over the last 14 years.
Everything seems to be in a worse state than it was before they were elected.
Brexit is as pointless as I thought it would be, I can't see a single positive outcome of it ,just negatives. Is there a positive?
Boris Johnson turned out to be the disaster I imagined he would be as prime minister,as did Liz Truss.
Maybe I m wearing rose tinted glasses too, but the country seemed like a more positive, better,,less miserable place to live during the Blair/Brown days to me .

Let's see how rose tinted your spectacles are after a couple of parliamentary terms of Labour in office.

Rose tinted specs are shite. All governments are charlatans and only good at feathering their own, and their cronies, nests.

What makes me laugh is the the Conservative supporters say they'd do a better job than Labour, then the reverse is true that Labour supporters think they'll do a better job.irie wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 3:50 pmTimes change.matt wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 3:37 pm I hate the Tories personally.

The simple answer is, they'll all do shit jobs. Why, because there's not enough money to do a decent one for all aspects. If you do education better you cut back on hospitals, if you do hospitals better you cut back on defence, or public services, or... well.. whatever really. All any government can come in and do is try and tread water, but it'll be a shit show.
Any anyone thinks any different is a mystery to me.
Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Yes let's.
Labour were doing quite well until the (worldwide) credit crunch when the British press did a fantastic job of convincing the country it was all Labours fault. Just like they did a great job of convincing them that we needed Brexit!
There are going to be tough times ahead whoever gets in because the country is currently on its knees in a deep hole that is going to be difficult to climb out of.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
I think there is enough money, more than enough, it's just that it isn't used anywhere near efficiently. We don't have a funding issue with most of our major institutions, in my opinion (particularly the NHS), we have a productivity issue. This being caused largely by political interference and many layers of needless bureaucracy which prevents the frontline staff from being able to carry out their duties effectively, rather than helping them ...

The real problem is that we have been living beyond our means for 50+ years. Not only have we been maxing out the national credit card, but we now actually expect that to continue forever.

But there are hugely profitable companies/ corporations and billionaires being gifted tax breaks, and loopholes so they don't have to pay their fair share while the small man suffers.
I believe there is enough money in the system,it's just unfairly distributed.

Based on the BBC debate tonight i'll be voting RUK or SNP or Green Party! Rayner showed herself to be useless as usual and Penny Mordaunt walked over her.

Re: Who Will You Vote For?
Well up until a couple of days ago we didn't have a labour candidate.
But now they've flown one in, a London councillor (Kashif Haroon) who will know the sum total of feck all about the constituency, has nothing on the labour website, and aside from a protected twitter account has no social media presence.
Looks like the tory 30K+ majority is going to be safe here
