I read a huge amount about them, but the only issue I've ever had was the rubber tubing itself getting old and causing a weep at the join between the tube and the connector (easily fixed by re-crimping the metal-band around the connection). The connectors themselves have never given trouble at all.

The Clymer book of lies I have reckons it should have plastic quick release connectors.

However it's got plain jane plastic pipe joiners, so they might already have been replaced... although internet wisdom seems to be to fit metal QR connectors.
