Carbon fork tubes, that’s making me wince already, having seen too many burnt toast and horse hair MTB handlebars fail due to hamfisted clamp tightening.

Well yeah....hence my comment. It can be done, but it'd be far from simple.

Can anyone tell me about the carbs in the bags?

There's seems to be three pieces and the carb bodies don't appear to have float bowls. The third part is a shared float bowl, I've never seen anything like that before.

Amal racing carburettors with remote “matchbox” float chamber. There were cylindrical remote float chambers too.

Early BSA 650 Spitfires came with twin racing carbs. I don’t know my racing gear well and can’t tell a GP from a 10TT9, but I think they were Amal GP type.

Anyway, the legend is that they were very difficult to keep in tune for satisfactory road use and if you wanted to use the bike as transport, you had to change the carbs. The second series of Spitfires got road carbs.

Edit: now I’ve looked at the ad, they’ve put later Amal Concentric road carbs on a 1966 bike and included the racing type carbs and float in bags.

If I remember right, the Spitfire MkII was the first model of A65 Spitfire.

I can’t see how they’ll get £26,000 for it. It’s full of non-period modifications.

Yeah, well study the market and see what else you can get for £26,000 first.

I only found it because it came up when I was looking for a Rocket Three, you can get a nice one of them for £8-12k.

Trouble with a triple is no matter what you paid, you won’t know it’s good until it doesn’t destroy its crankshaft and clutch and pull all the head fastener threads out and let its cylinder liners jump up and down.

But a good one does have stamina that other Brit bikes don’t have.
