Yesterday:
Spent some time at my mates shop working on the GPz750... outside in the sun, no hat. Owing to thinning hair I now have a sunburnt scalp. bugger.

Rest day today, in the middle of our NW week. Did lots of miles earlier in the week, around Lough Erne and through the Sperrins. Dry but cool, roads nearly free of PHs, wiggly and undulating - lots of fun was had. Here’s a couple…

started painting the decking with the shed paint. Got quite a way into it before I realised it was about 5 shades lighter than the other half of the decking! D'oh! :D

Not a good photo, but it's getting there!! I am on a roll today and may finish it in the week :) :). It looks awesome (the below is not a good photo!! )

Image

Also, walked up the corridor twice today, no pain - this makes me very very happy! I reckon maybe 150m total this morning and probably closer to 200m this evening :) :)

But the best thing of all - a mate from back home messaged to ask if we are allowed visitors ! They are currently in Chamonix and riding to a place lakeside of Lac Annecy tomorrow and said they'd come and see me

Not only will I get to see visitors for the first time in about 10 days, but they are English speakers (I so rarely get to speak English here, certainly not conversation!!) AND I get to see motorbikes as well :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde: She's awesome and one of the two I keep in contact with from the ladies race team I did the Endurance with, will be so good to see her :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:

Just hoping that rain doesn't happen and if it does, it doesn't put them off!!

Separated the non-union fracture in my wrist trying to get a 10mm 1/4in drive deep socket onto the bolt holding the CPS to the front of the engine on my F350. Stings a bit. :wtf:

Gonna be wearing the brace for a day or so... again :angry-cussingblack:

Today I had surprise visitors. Even more surprising, english ones! Even more more surprising, they’re from near where I used to live in the uk!!

She messaged me last night to ask if visitors were welcome!! They’re on a biking holiday 😊

Three and a half hours of chat later, a bag of clementines and some more mini chocolate bars and I’m sitting here grinning like a loon!!

Last time I saw her was a month or so before the bike crash (9 years !!) and I’ve never met her other half!

Was just totally awesome. First visitors in ten days and they’re bikers AND english!! 🤣🤣😊😊😊

Commuted to work on the GS... All the way in limp mode with a 3750rpm rev limit, which equals about 65mph in top.

I strongly suspect the cam shaft sensor, usually a restart fixes it, not this time!

:bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:

Did 25 mins on the air bag treadmill - at 40% :bblonde: :bblonde:

May have cheated a bit! Well, not cheated but found out why (probably) I was struggling last week - they had me walking at 1.5km/hr (I guess it's per hour). So, not being a light person, even at 35% that's a fair bit of weigh through the joint on a slow movement.

So today as it started to hurt a bit I tried going faster. I ended up doing most of the time at 2.5km/hr - which didn't hurt :D

Ok, the last couple of mins the physio got me to go to 45% and it was mostly ok but did get less comfortable but not like last week :bblonde:

I is very happy - I've walked a kilometre (according to the machine) at 40%, mostly, started lower and finished higher! And yes, not particularly comfortable but definitely not painful :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:

There is hope that I might be released in 4.5 weeks as planned :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

One of my hearing aids shit the bed so just dropped it off for warranty repair or replacement. I'm sure it had nothing to do with wringing out the ZRX11 yesterday..

KungFooBob wrote: Fri May 08, 2026 10:05 am Car failed it's MOT, I thought the rear tyres might get me an advisory, turns out there's cords showing on the bits I can't see.

Oops.
After some confusion, they ordered the wrong tyres.

It's a staggered setup and the rears are wider than the fronts.

It's also come to light the fitted rears are 255/45 R19, they should be 255/40 R19's.

I bought it as an approved used BMW from a big franchised dealer... Who let it out with the wrong tyres on.

Yeah I know it's only the sidewall depth, but still you'd think they'd know which tyres were right for the car.
Only sidewall depth and outer circumference which can mess up the speeds the car thinks the wheels are travelling at.
My Jag was approved used from a main dealer and it didn't have full service history, the only way I could check was asking a main dealer. :silent:

I've done a lot of walking with crutches - generally at around or a smidge over 50% weight bearing :bblonde: :bblonde:

Did some walking exercises - walking across scales and blocks to work out what 50% "feels" like! Physio said there were times I was at 60 or 65% but never when bending the knee; but it's progress !!!

This afternoon I couldn't do pool therapy because the pool is out of order - so my first week of getting three sessions in one week, it looks like I won't have any :( :(

But I did get to go to physio and did some lying down leg exercises and then 15 mins on the static bike - 6.6kms and 11 calories :o FFS ELEVEN - I was sweating and used enough calories to warrant a couple of Pringles :( :( :( And yes, there was a reasonable resistance, and I wasn't just turning the wheels, I was pedalling quite hard (for a non cycling bird with a broken knee!!) !!!!

Walked around the corridors here too and whilst the knee feels "full" (LOTS of inside damage) the bone pain I had last week (that I didn't realise was bone pain  ) didn't come back!!!

Considering getting a thingy support for the real wheel of my cycle when I get released- I really am not keen on actual cycling but I do have one, so it seems more sensible to set it up on the terrace when I get home and pedal with a view and no fear - maybe !!!! :) :)

But, generally a good day - now need to see if any of my colleagues are free to bring my car here and then I can do a weekend at home the weekend after next!! :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Replaced the camshaft position sensor on my R200GS LC.

A 'compatible' one from Ebay for under a tenner compared to the £60 BMW want. It's the same parts that used on the bikes and pretty much every model of BMW car.

Arrived in two days and took about 5 mins to fit.

Unclip sensor, remove single bolt, pull sensor out (lose an egg cup full of oil), new sensor in, bolt in, plug attached, done.

The check engine and the EML went off about 10 seconds after it started. Nice.

What I do have to wonder is why the boxer engine only has one cam position sensor?

Yesterday - cos was knackered by the end of the day!

Did a bit of walking on crutches in the morning. Joined the other inmates for lunch (bank holiday, so lunch was in the room on out level, not with "everyone")

Then a mate from work and his partner came here - bringing my car :bblonde: :bblonde:

We chatted for ages (god it's still tiring "chatting" in french! Awesome that I can, but it melts my brian! TBF, it's tiring chatting in English, but doesn't melt my brian in the same way!!) and then H carried a bag of ski kit and other stuff I don't need down the the car - and I walked all the way to the car park on crutches !!! Including the steps he parked my car next to :) :) (and then of course, back to my room)

Very very happy with being able to do that - no reason the doctor should say no to my request to go home next weekend for a night!!

I was just chilling in my room waiting for dinner when a fellow inmate came and invited me to join everyone as there's a few that are going home today and next week. Really didn't have the brain for it, but I did go. Conversation was tough as there were a lot of peeps and they all talk at warp speed and at the same time

But, I chatted with someone that lives local to me and as I know she's here for a while, I asked if she liked pot plants cos someone gave me a orchid when she left, and I have been worried I was going to kill it! She accepted and we chatted a fair bit and then someone who is leaving next week said she has some paper flowers and gave them to me!! She's quite arty and so we got chatting, she came and looked at my cross stitch and shared info on a book to make the paper flowers (definitely my kind of crafty stuff!) and swapped numbers to keep in touch when she leaves :) :). I did make everyone laugh with my bad grammar when saying that if I kept it I'd kill it!!

Bloody tiring bank holiday, but better food than normal (because it's a BH) and lots of chat that I didn't expect - but most of all, my car is here; so once the doc confirms, I can be a little bit independent!! (Handy to go get things like fruit!! Cos now I don't get visitors very often, I run out!!)

Hopefully - four weeks to go before I can go home - if all goes well!!!! :obscene-drinkingcheers:
