I recently had cause the wear my new scleral RGPs with the yellow dye liquid in them. It obviously made everything yellow tinted (and also gave me rather spiffy looking bright green eyes). I'm genuinely tempted to ask and see if I can get bright yellow tints, it was just nice having a blue light filter on life!

Gremlinette and her friend brought me some covid-busting old-school cakes, namely a London cheesecake, a slab of bread pudding and an Eccles cake.

I won't die of covid, but probably a heart attack by Thursday.

I finally got to pick this guy up from the shelter :)

Everyone, meet Max

I'm actually stunned how good he is. He's a bit nervous and quite excitable, but we've already made huge improvements to reduce him pulling on the lead :)

Permission to blow my own trumpet?

On a recent trip to the Nick Sanders ranch I talked at length to a rider who had lots of talent but has only been riding 9 months and was making a few mistakes that could have been fatal if luck wasn't on his side. Dr Caroline, Nick's wife was earwigging and thinks that I am a "clear and brilliant" teacher.

From that I have been asked to be a speaker at their Adventure Gathering festival - I have ridden some wild roads with Nick ;)

I'm waiting for another commitment to be confirmed before I can consider doing it - it's the weekend before Pembury so I'd go to Wales and stay there until the track day. I'm not sure I can do all of that - but, it's very flattering to be asked.

My other commitment has confirmed so I can't do this - still, it was nice to be asked. I've said I'm available next year :P

Getting Baby D (4) changed in the family changing cubicle after swimming. She gives a big sniff and says "Daddy, what's that lovely smell?". So I take a sniff too.

Lynx Africa

Seems the adverts were right about its effect on women, they just got the age wrong.

Holiday makers' dress sense :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Sitting outside my fave bar and we always chuckle at some of the stuff that folk wear. Some outfits just outright stupid. I'd take pics but some of the girls would attack me :D

Some look as though they got pissed then went into an Oxfam shop.
Put a blindfold on, then got pointed to the small sizes stuff :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Getting the bus back from the bar last night with a couple of English and translating their conversation with the bus driver and two other passengers :D :D Kinda cool that I can chat in both languages (Not that good in French but good enough for a bunch of drunks!! LOL)

Finding out that the 2.0 HDi engine in my ratty old Citroen Berlingo does NOT have a DMF (dual mass flywheel) - it's solid.

The (famously grumpy) mechanic at the place I take my car/van to had earlier opined that a ticking/clacking noise I wanted him to investigate could be the DMF on the way out...

Having a dog

I knew I'd wanted one for ages but I had no idea of the benefits to my mental health that would come as part of the package!!

That said I do seem to have won the lottery of rescue dogs. Doesn't beg or steal, is house trained, walks to heal on a loose lead 90% of the time (we're working on the other 10), fairly decent recall (not let him off leash yet but I have a 10M long one !) and will sit quietly on a decking while I do a clean or a check in. He's super gentle with small kids too. Other dogs are his only real trigger and even that is getting better each day.

How awesome is it that you're born with the ability to roam around for free!

Mine are getting tired and although I've always appreciated good mobility I find I appreciate it more now I don't take it for granted so much.
I've never really enjoyed just walking somewhere for the walk rather than an actual reason. As kids we had bicycles and horses, or, if on hols with BDad, we would go sailing, so we didn't ever really just go for walks.

Now I live up here and can walk (once the knee is stronger!) I am looking forward to just going for a walk up on the mountains. There are so many peaks around me that I can 'bimble' up, that, for the first time in my life I'm looking forward to just going for a walk! Ok, the bonus for me is that I'll get fitter and by winter should be able to skin up the piste to watch the sunrise at the top without too much of an issue, but I think I'm going to enjoy the just walking bit a lot!

like you, I am now appreciating the mobility side of things a lot more - five years of being restricted due to pain in the shoulder and now knee and being able to walk up and down hill without pain is/will be freaking awesome!

Out in the hills, with a bicycle and some water.... there's very few things in existence that remotely compare to how happy this makes me feel.

One though, is putting socks on my ears and pretending i'm a doing going WOOF ! at my 14 year old, who finds it absolutely hysterical.

As dads it's vital we fulfill our obligation of being as daft as possible at every opportunity. The more embarrassing the better.

A few weeks ago I spoke to the DWP about having my state pension paid into my Turkish bank. It seems that it's not a problem, it has to be a TL account and I will get the rate of exchange on the day of transfer. It would cost me nothing! I sent them my bank details by recorded delivery post and it seems that they got my letter on the 24th July. I thought that my pension payments (June and July's are outstanding after Santanfuckingder closed my accounts in June*) would probably not be paid until the middle of August as the July payment was due just a couple of days later.

Imagine my surprise then on checking my Turkish banking app this morning and seeing that June and July's pension payments had been transferred. Yay! I think I'll email them with a thank you. The rate of exchange was good as well!

* The Santanfuckingder thing is a long story and certainly not one for the 'Happy' thread. I call their complaints department every couple of days to tie up one of their complaints team for an hour or so on my current complaint - "Where's my fucking money?"

Santander translates from Spanish as incompetent twats I believe.

The large plot next to us has just been bought and they came last week to mark it all out. :(
They plan to start excavation Monday.
So we're hurriedly canceling bookings for our apartment coz holiday folk don't want to sit next to a building site.
Also canceled all adverts coz will be about 9 months.
Quite a big loss of our only income

But I got an enquiry today from a lad about taking it for 12 months.
We negotiated a decent price after lots of chat on WhatsApp.
He was also eyeing one up about 20 miles away, but I showed him the reviews on our Airbnb advert.

That swung it. He was super impressed

He's just transfered a month bond to my bank account.

In pub now celebrating :obscene-birdiedoublered:
