Haha, you’ve just reminded me of my old man, he’d either do a job with the minimum necessary to complete the task, which meant my electrician nephew spent two solid weekends checking various sockets and wiring Dad had moved, changed or installed in his house so we could sell the place or he’d buy a box of 250 / 500 correct sized screws to do a job leaving 244/ 494 screws left over. I suspect I’d never have needed to buy another box of screws in my life had he left them in the original box rather than tipping the remainder into his ‘useful’ tub of screws, all of which ended up in a skip rather than being sorted…

Happy memories though other than filling the 8 yard skip with his ‘useful’ stuff…

During his decline, I thankfully managed to spend a lot of time with him as I was under notice of redundancy, he kept mentioning to me and my sister about needing to go to his house as he had something really important he needed to give to a neighbour. He had a large mass on his Brian which meant he wasn’t always lucid or made much sense, but we did what we could to understand him and ensure what he wanted to happen, happened.

After much confusion and coming and going, I spent a week with him at his house while I “worked” remotely allowing him to do what he wanted / felt necessary around his house. He proclaimed, quite triumphantly, one day that he’d sorted out what he needed to do for Mike and could I drop it around to the neighbours. I was presented with around a dozen random lengths of timber for Mike’s logburner.

During various visits, back and forth from Sunderland to Bexhill, my sister and I discovered in his post and ‘that important pile of documents on the top of his microwave’, an unsigned will, a reminder for a speed awareness course, a NIP that had expired and several overdue bills. The NIP was for the same speed camera as the speed awareness course offence and the ‘new’ NIP offence was dated three days later than the original speeding offence for the speed awareness course The camera has been in situ at the same place for at least the last thirty years… I have typically only visited Bexhill a couple of times a year over the last 30 years or so and I know where it is is and have been reminded about the camera several times while my father has been a passenger / co-driver

Thankfully he was sufficiently lucid enough to sign his will and my sister managed to convince East Sussex police to quash the speeding offences on confirmation that he’d surrendered his licence.

Washed both our cars. I think I have more of my in-laws unmade road on my drive than they do!

Managed my first e bike ride for nearly 6 months. Weather made it type 2 fun at times with the wind but glad I didn't just dive back under the duvet when I looked out of the window this morning.

Now all the muscles that used to get used quite often are taking revenge for being left idle for too long.

Need to do more, more often

Took the wife and the mother unit to Miller and Carter in Doncaster.

The wife is a veggie. Yeah I know a steak house isn't the number one choice for a tree hugger.

Anyways three courses for £36.99, the wife's main a veggie burger came out cold.

Not a problem says the fella, I'll knock it of the bill and I'll get you another.

10 mins later the next one comes (after ma and me had finished ours). The burger is like a hocky puck, you can't even cut it. fella is told, but wife decides to eat the chips and stuff, can't be bothered with sending it back again.

We were very polite about it, even joking with the duty manager and waiter.

Anyways, the bill comes and they've comped £60 off.

Nice.

Found out there is a most excellent fish restaurant just up the road to me. I then bolloxed up my birthday surprise from my wife, by saying, nay, insisting we go there for my birthday and missed the cues to shut up from my kids!

Barely got out of bed. Apart from going for a dozen horrible toilet teips

Walked the dog in the sunshine. Actual sunshine Which was lush.

Made a huge vat of spag bol to go in the freezer for emergency comfort food requirements.

Went to IKEA to pick up a bog roll holder for the parents new downstairs toilet.
Had a pleasing mooch on my tod as it was pretty quiet and I'd left the other half at home, and IKEA is way easier to navigate solo. Bought some random useful and pretty bits and bobs.

When you described the symptoms yesterday I wondered about food poisoning of some sort. Ate anything that might be responsible?

Domino's on Friday evening. Very little on Sat. I did wonder about my water bottle causing it. But it was fresh water

Domino's on Friday evening. Very little on Sat. I did wonder about my water bottle causing it. But it was fresh water

Domino's is looking favourite but, how often does the water bottle get cleaned? I occasionally chuck a Steradent in ours to make sure no wee beasties are in residence 'cos they're a bit of a to clean properly (use it to clean tea stains out of mugs too).

GWS whatever the cause.

We use Milton sterilising fluid for water bottles and hydration packs.

It doesn't really get cleaned. But I only use water and its refreshed every ride. Done the same for 20+ years

Have used Milton too but it doesn't remove tea stains...so Steradent is what's in the cupboard under the sink.

I was pondering, as I am wont to do and wondered - do MTB riders still use water bottles in a cage on the frame? If so, does the bottle get muddy?

Nothing wrong necessarily with a bit of good, honest, clean mud maybe but a microbiologist might be interesting in culturing some of it if the trails involve paths that dog walkers use, or cross fields which cattle use etc etc.

Having seen the state of some riders during the boggy season the airborne distribution of faecal matter doesn't even need to involve the water bottle!

Some water bottles have flip-top lids that cover the drinking nozzle, but they're fairly uncommon. So mostly whether it's a bottle on a bike or a nozzle on a bag, it's potentially exposed yes.
But we don't know if that was the cause or the pizza or something more random.... i won't lose sleep over my usual drinking from a bike mounted bottle.

I wouldn't go as far as to say i'm over it now, but i'm getting there.

I used to put my water bottles in the dishwasher, but one time I noticed a greasy flavour to the water. Having a closer look I noticed a little bit of bacon fat stuck in the nozzle mechanism, which I assume was flung up in the dishwasher and got caught.

After that it was handwash only.
