Religiously delusional fuckwit con artists. This family were all clean-cut looking college boys that wouldn't have been out of place at Oxford until they stumbled on this hillybilly look & got a TV series. Wouldn't surprise me to find out their self proclaimed religious life is as fake as everything else about them.

Never took them seriously but the show was enjoyable. My lad used to really enjoy watching it in his teens. Con artists or not, they made a load of money out of duck whistles and tv shows. I'm far from being religious but I quite liked them.

His dislike for 'sinful' gay folk was real enough.

I think the reason people like him hate gays is because they're afraid some bloke will treat them the way they treat women...

Still aired here, 2 episodes every week night*. The 2 hour series finale is still the most watched scripted show in television history (106Million)

*Except the 2 hour finale which is shown once a year.

Probably timing for me. I was a never home kid. I was always out getting up to some shit. Think MASH came out here in the late 70's where i left School in 79 and soon discovered pubs and clubs so still a never at home kid. TV was never a big thing and still like that now. Last Sunday was the last time the TV was on and only as the wife wanted to watch The 1% Club

Him and the Family Stone were responsible for one of those 'time travelling' records. Every time I hear 'Dance to the Music' I'm a kid on holiday at the seaside again where it seemed to be coming out of every speaker on ever fairground and every amusement arcade. :D

RIP memory chap.

(Some Kid Creole and the Coconuts tracks do the same. 1982, a hot London summer having recently moved there, something from 'Tropical Gangsters' seemed to be drifting out of every open window. Still love that album  ).

A talented but troubled soul. How often do those two attributes go together?

Rest easy Sly.
