Y'know, like if you really want to ride either a) get out there or b) get another bike that you don't mind getting salty and get out there or c) dob them in and use the car.
If you want to do it, do it.
If you want to do it, do it.

That's why I bought the SV650 last year, unfotunately, unlike cars, these days I seem to have a problem running a bike even a cheap one on salty roads.Count Steer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 6:48 pm Y'know, like if you really want to ride either a) get out there or b) get another bike that you don't mind getting salty and get out there

It also helps that I now have time on my hands so I can pick the least bad wintere's day to get the bike covered in crap, again...

Generally speaking, if there's salt on the roads, it's for a reason (not always, I grant you) and that reason is low temperatures and risk of snow and/or ice. Do you really want to be riding a moto in those temperatures?
I don't.

I get that. But...February was the driest here for 30 years. Bone dry roads for weeks on end,the roads would have been perfect to ride on, dry roads don't get icy at 1 or 2 degrees. Some nights it was 6 degrees and they still slarried it about.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:04 pm Generally speaking, if there's salt on the roads, it's for a reason (not always, I grant you) and that reason is low temperatures and risk of snow and/or ice. I don't mind the cold at all,I have the gear, but salt is a deal breaker for me. I love those days after heavy rain and the roads are washed and dried, but they get in too quickly now, then it needs rain again.
Anyway,roll on the Spring,or a griiter strike.

Yeah, completely agree. I was looking at the LC and looking at the roads after the recent rain and thinking should I? But I hesitated and out came the f'n gritting wagons again...Skub wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:24 pmI get that. But...February was the driest here for 30 years. Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
This morning's commitment went quicker than expected, the weather had lived up to the forecast and the roads looked really quite clean on the way home so I whipped up to get a quick MOT & head out for a while. Just as I sat down for the test I had messages saying that my youngest daughter was in the sick-bay at school and would probably have to come home...
Never mind, good to get out and at least the MOT's sorted.

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
Had a few hours ride today. Can't remember last time I rode it. First hour was shite. Literally hundreds of wanker, arrogant cyclists. Blocking the narrow roads and causing huge tailback.
Once clear of them it was a nice ride. It's not the perfect bike for here, but not selling it. Might be a new bike thread soon

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
I got out for a few hours on the SV650.The weather was nice earlier & all the recent rain had washed away the road salt
Had a catch up with my mate & his wife down at the local bike friendly pub.Drinking coffee when there's Plum Porter on tap
Still,it was worth it to get out on the bike.
It clouded up later & more rain's forecast this evening, but on the way home I stopped for a photo for the riding challenge thing, but someone's beat me to that.Still.it was a nice few hours out on the bike

Armchair in for 9.30 mot. New place and a great chap he is. Home for a oil change then took it for a spin. Road's covered in shit but nice to get out all the same.

Went out for a damp ride on the old shitter.
Usually hate the wet but the bike felt really good, got home and checked the tyre pressures, 25psi front, 10psi in the rear

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
Lots of rain the past couple of weeks,so all the salt was washed away and this morning was dry and bright,so I fired up the bike for a run. I should have kept to the main roads, but I didn't and the country roads were filthy, but it was too late by then,as the bike was now boggin'.
Good to get out, quite mild and some roads were decently dry and grippy.
I had to wash the bike when I got home,it's not often had water inflicted upon it and I think it may be in shock.
I only stopped for one pic and that's in the comp thread.

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
I took the Street Triple out for a spin to Merlin cycles near Chorley for some cycling stuff.
It's been the best day for riding a bike that we've had in a while, very windy, loose gravel & mud on the road but the sun was shining
I even took a couple of photo's for the riding challenge post but was beaten to it,maybe next time, maybe not
I even took one with a telephone box & post box in the same image..
The forecast's not looking good for the next few days so I think I'll get on with stripping down the XT600.

First time out with Avon Roadriders on the Tenere, felt pretty much the same as the Trailriders I’ve had on for the last few years, bet they don’t last as long though.

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
It was cloudy & chilly this morning so I did 60 km on the pushbike, but in the afternoon the sun shone, lovely early Spring day so I've been out on the Street Triple :thumbup. The roads were full of loose gravel & dried mud,but it was the first time in a couple of weeks that I've been on a motorbike & I enjoyed it
It was going well until I rolled to a stop at a junction near home & realised the gritter's had been out .Only one thing for it,go for a ride down some more country lanes & hope any grit that's on the bike gets flung off before things start to corrode
Last week in broad daylight whilst cycling,a deer jumped in front of me about 20 metres from where I took this photo,no such surprises today

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
Beautiful morning and I had to nip out on an errand so I took the bike. It was frosty first thing but the roads were clean & it felt a lot warmer than the 6 degrees on the dash, so I stayed out for an hour or so.
Took a photo for the riding challenge but it was impossible to get the crossroad sign in shot and, looking at the photo now, it hardly even looks like a crossroad...never mind

I'd have stuck it in the challenge thread anyway. I don't think anyone is too strict now!
