I'll put money on it starting soon after people start talking about Downing Street Christmas parties again.

Yes, there's a huge back log and it's not going away any time soon. A&E are cluttered up with the worried well. Ambulances can't hand over and get on to the next job. Covid has (and to a lesser extent is) caused huge issues.
The backlog is near enough 6m.

Good luck.
Not been a short team climb from near-zero, through the pandemic, has it?

Yeah it's huge. Solutions?
Triage, WW1 military style?

Will he survive without intervention?
Yes - leave him for later.
No - Next question
Are we >x% certain we can fix him?

Later? Ah, that's what's called a 'waiting list' then? So you haven't solved anything.

Tested + on LF, confirmed by PCR, last Wednesday. He's still having fevers and other symptoms a week on. He's breathless just walking up stairs.
The flip side is that I had in in March 2020, just after our first lockdown started here, hardly any effects.
It's his second go.

First time was March/April 2020. He said it was like a bad cold, a bit 'out of it', for a few days.
First time for me wasn't that bad, second time (a few weeks ago) even less effect.

I was worried as I've read that if you don't get a reaction from the vaccines/booster then it isn't going to work - if it doesn't, my system does! But hopefully they are tag teaming to beat the virus!! LOL

It does suck big style for those that it affects longer though. I count myself very lucky so far as have some friends with 'long-covid' :( :(

Au contraire.

First lot you are waiting for them to get better
Second lot you are waiting for them to die
Either way the 'problem' gets solved without medical intervention.

I think the vast majority of the waiting list is for stuff like dodgy knees and hips. The two week rule, cancer stuff and acute care is still alive and well.

A major issue is where people have put off going to the doc for routine stuff which may allow for early intervention of more serious issues.

Deal with the backlog as a priority at the expense of current Covid infectees which are largely by choice unvaccinated.

Edit: don't think we'll be going to Barbados on 31st December to see our pals. Fuck.
I think you’ll get there ok. I can’t see any appetite either from the public or the government for any kind of lockdown (not least from Sunak who will have to bankroll it).

Never say never, but I think things would have to be pretty drastic rather than just ‘maybes’ to get to that stage.

We’ve seen a taste of that today with the rebellion against mask wearing and passports.

It seems that Johnson wants to assert his authority while on the other hand (perhaps the majority of) Tory MPs want rid of Johnson.

I wouldn't bet on Johnson, I suspect that it will end up hinging on the results of the North Shropshire by-election on Thursday this week.

Not in that way, and you know that….

To actively withhold treatment from someone presenting for treatment is a different kettle of fish to putting someone on an EOL pathway when other options have been exhausted.

This has always has been the case when a choice has to made between two lives when only one can be saved. That is the situation now being faced.

Yeah. Got them too. Can't be sure it was the booster though, the timing fits but who knows? Neurofen stash is taking a bit of a hammering.
Both me and the wife may be in trouble for NYE, we're both getting our jabs on the 30th !
Judging by people at work who've had the booster you're probably in for a couple of days of fairly full on flu symptoms.

I don't know whether to have a booster or not, have a booster and I'm pretty much guaranteed 2-3 days of flu followed by weeks of aching joints, or risk getting Covid which could be anything from no symptoms to a pretty bad flu and aching joints for a few weeks.

People in here are concerned about another lockdown, and quite rightly so, tbh it won't really affect me much as I'm an anti social essential worker, but, unless things are really obviously bad, I think the decision will be based on politics rather than medical science.

Glad it's not just me, I can't say 100% it's the vaccine, but the timing is right, what's annoying is that spring of this year I felt better than I had for years, I was not getting the minor winter infections I usually get and doing quite a bit of cycling outside, so I was out in the fresh air getting exercise, the achey joints have stopped me cycling and I'm now back up to 14 stone.
