Another full tank of fuel used. 40mpg again. That is reassuring as it is me blatting about and doing short trips. Also washed the bike again and wiped it down. Put away for now, cold!! Will need to have a think about stripping the rear end down and changing the subframe as I do want to use the pillion pegs for the wife to come with me in the summer.

More work to be done! All due to a black hound running into the road and me taking avoiding action, hitting a pile of those nitrogen bottles scattered on the road and sliding! Dog owner buggered off quickly, leaving me to pick up the bike after I took action flicking the kill switch.

Bike damage: Scraped bar end and brake lever. Bent bars (I was looking to change to LSL bars anyhow), right mirror broken (and it was rubbish), some small scrapes on nose cone fairing. Scraped foot peg. I was doing 15mph at the time. Dog came out between a high sided van and car straight at me. Road was damp and cold.

Damage to me. Pride. Winded and shaken up. Bruised hip and shoulder. Pays off to wear all the correct gear. Boots saved ankle and foot that was trapped under the bike, which saved it from further damage. I have full mobility and just ache. A couple who live in a house nearby saw everything and the gent tried to catch the dog owner who ran away, but could not. He gave a description of a middle-aged man. She brought me sweet tea and ibuprofen tablets which were a boon. Nothing like a cup of kindness.

Ebay costings show it will be around £150 to put right for a lot of stuff I was going to change anyhow, and now I have to do it! Small mercies and all that. It can wait as we are in the middle of buying a house and all funds are going towards that!

I have some silver Afam alloy superbike bars that I had on my old Speed Triple if you want them. I haven't forgotten the SAIS blanking plates, but stuff gets in the way

I'd be glad of the Afam bars. let me know what you want for them. I'm not sure if my variant 955i engine has SAIS system anyhow? It is inbetween the models and changes. I don't bounce as well as I used to, but I still have some grit.

That gave me a much needed chuckle!! I'm doing okay, a bit achy, but once I get moving I'm fine. Just need to focus on important things in life and get on with what I have to do.

Thanks. Went to see the people vet today as my hip/leg bruise was rather painful and swollen. But all is well. Shoulder is aching, but I'm doing fine. Just have to man up and keep going. But I am very grateful for the fantastic doctor who was very kind and for the common sense of wearing good biking gear. It would have been a lot worse if I had not.

It sounds callous, but often you're better of not trying to swerve, just brake in a straight line. Often as not, an animal will dart away (the only thing they can't do is select reverse gear ).

Just realised that my Shoei Neotec took an absolutely monster smash when I hit the deck. I was not concussed, but I was heavily winded and dizzy. I've just priced this up and it is £579 to replace! What a dilemma! An equivalent X-Lite is currently on sale for £200. I think that will do the trick! I just cannot bring myself to ask for that much, even though I did spend it in the first place.

Are you claiming for the lid? If you are then you should claim for what needs replacing.

If not then yeah I can't see me spending £600 on a lid.

You made a bet with the insurance underwriter: you bet him that you would crash in the next 12 months and paid what he assessed as a reasonable price, plus the vig. He sat safe in the knowledge that crashing hurts and you'd avoid doing it, but he's lost that bet, and now he gets to pay up like he signed up for.

Realistically, he'll knock down your claim if he can, so you may only end up with the money for the X-Lite, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

All sorted. The fellow came over and paid cash to cover the damage to bike. I'm happy with that. He will give a bit towards the lid, that is fine. I was not after him for money in the first place, but I am glad to have a bit towards the costs. It does make it easier for me to get the bike back on the road again.

Picked up a rear shock with only 8k on it, so that will make a difference over the 58k rear shock. Should arrive sometime this week, along with the bits to repair the bike and make it roadworthy again. I've taken Tuesday off, so will try and do some work then. Bits are arriving today.

Parcels arrived today. Shock is in good condition. May not fit it tomorrow as I've decided to give myself a proper rest day. Mirrors fitted, indicator fitted and all looking good. Will have to sort out bar ends at some point when I have the right tools to get the old ones out and new ones in. Not quite straight forward.
