INCOMING !! New frame day... Bird Aether 7
Re: INCOMING !! New frame day... Bird Aether 7
My mate Jon (you meet him on the first fod day out) had run these for quite a long time and loves then for the power and feel.
He has told me that they are dammed near impossible to stop the pad rubbing the disk. Despite this he won't run anything else.

I guess we'll see lol. I'm not sure what the answer is then. Shimano have their issues, so do Hope, so do SRAM... what's the best answer.... i'm buggered if i know.

I don't think there's anything in the MTB world that doesn't have issues so it's mostly about doing the best you can, and if noises bother you wear ear plugs
I'm riding with Jon on Saturday so I'll ask him if he's worked anything out for them..he is a bike mech so if there is a fix he should know it.

IT's not the noise but the drag, what i find weird though is that my lads ones are less draggy than mine is, despite being the exact same brakes both at the lever end and the caliper, i can get his spinning freely and a nice lever feel.Taff wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 9:32 am I don't think there's anything in the MTB world that doesn't have issues so it's mostly about doing the best you can, and if noises bother you wear ear plugs

Obviously with BPW i'm not going to rip into my calipers today as that's a disaster right there if it goes wrong lol.
I've put that order on hold with Merlin for now while i research.
One of the guys who's out at BPW tomorrow has Hopes, so i may steal a quick ride on his to see.

I've run Hopes on both the HT and FS since I built them and they've been completely problem free. 2 pots on the HT and 4 pots on the FS - Tech 3 levers and braided lines throughout and they're just superb.

I look forward to lobbing it on and seeing how it goes then It's not that i need an improvement in perofrmance of brakes, well, not in terms of power... but i would like consistency and lack of rub.

Power is always subjective as you can pretty much lock up your wheels with any brake set up, it's much more down to how well you can modulate that power, tyre size, weight distribution etc.
The Hopes have always been very easy to modulate, more than enough power and rarely rub - in fact I'm struggling to remember ever having a brake rub issue.

I can’t stand Hope brakes and much prefer SRAM. ….
