Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
We are in a new era of expansion with the company and have taken on numerous new schools in a short period of time, so super stressful for me at the moment, doing 6.30am-6pm most days without breaks as i am covering all my normal techie stuff as well as sales meetings etc etc etc. I had a meeting with the director of education for south glos LA last week which was well above my pay grade!
We have not signed any new schools for about 2 years and all of a sudden 6 schools have come to us and signed within the last month, so our workload has increased significantly. We are also in the process of pushing all our schools into MS365 tenancies which is a big process in itself.
We also envision taking on another big cluster of schools (28) later this year/early next year so will need to recruit a few new techies before that, which is the biggest challenge of all. The worst thing is they may all tender out individually, hopefully they wont!
It doesn't matter though, as long as i have a good supply of Herb and Hash Oil i'm fine. Oh and a good supply of cider also helps...
My escapism is music, gigs mainly and loosing myself in music in my studio, luckily it's something that's hard for anyone to take away from me, which is nice.

I put that to the test. Reason being a quit drinking during the week yet wake up for work felling like i have a hangover. I do eat a lot of sweet things and easy could scoff a four pack of Cadburys Crunchie during the evening. Binned the sweets also and now no hangover feeling.

My life has always been full pelt, if I wasn't busy all the time I felt like I was literally wasting my life, my weekends were always planned and there was always something on the go. I've never really been able to relax, I always had to have some sort of project, plan or activity to worry about or it felt like I wasn't making progress.
So I decided to stop. I've spent the last few weekends doing hardly anything unless I felt like it, I've divested some investments that were causing me to concentrate and stress and I've put the money into a normal bank account. I have no projects on the go, no personal deadlines to meet, nothing planned.
Now I feel like I have nothing pressing that needs attention and nowhere I need to be unless I feel like it.
It feels a bit weird to be honest, it's like being on holiday.

LOL. Early on in retirement someone asked me what I was doing for my holidays. I thought about it as nothing was planned and ended up saying 'I AM on holiday!'Yorick wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 1:28 pmGood innit ?Potter wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 12:54 pmI've done the opposite and it's done me a power of good.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 10:00 am ...keeping my mind occupied to stop me thinking about stuff seems to be the answer for me.

Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
I've had a spectacularly horrible 9 weeks from breaking my leg (chipping a knee bone!). From the treatment in hospital to going home 'because I have loads of friends there now' and finding out that everyone is just too busy to check up on, contact, visit or just text the cripple that lives on the first floor on her own!! The arguing with a surgeon that 'should' have listened and sent me to rehab at the start of april, but didn't so it took another 4.5 weeks to sort it out!
So, mentally I went way further into the dark than I've been for a long time. Finding out that the local people I called friends don't have the same views on friendship as I do was probably the biggest depressing thing. But as my shoulder got worse from using the crutches, that made things millions worse because, without a place in rehab, I couldn't see any progress, and everyone would leave resort by end of May anyway, so I would be stuck
So, this time, the way out has been appropriate treatment of my shoulder. Ok, and my knee, but that has always be way down my list of important as it hasn't hurt!! LOL
Realising that some people are real friends that do care was a bonus (one did a 6 hour round trip to have lunch with me. Another has a messenger chat with me almost everyday, despite running a busy little cake/savouries shop on her own). And my favourite seasonnaire in Courchevel came to say hi before he left for the summer!!
Making some french friends and getting better at the language also helped and gave me a more positive outlook on the future!
But I'm still looking forward to the day I can get back on the bike and do some gentle bimbles around my area. I know that being able to do that will rebuild me much more mentally than anything else!

Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
Thank you. TBF, it's been rare over the years that I have gotten that low. There was a brief moment last year before I found HRT but I wasn't as bad as this time.
But in general I can find a positive. My French has improved in leaps and bounds, so the fact that it'll be awhile before I can actually 'do' leaps and bounds is balanced a bit!! LOL
Being solo is quite tough during something like this. Normally I'm quite happy in my own company, have never worried about living, working and skiing/biking alone. But this was enforced and it seems that I'm less able to deal with that!!
But I will get there - at some point!!

@Noggin I think that you have been incredibly brave and have coped with what would have seriously messed up quite a few rufty tufty biker peoples. Best thing is that you are talking to people. Blessings and prayers for your recovery and your well being.

Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
Thank you. Part of the problem is that there are very few people to talk to here - that aren't already bored to tears because I've been broken since 2017. Probably part of the reason so few in resort made the effort to meet up with me, who wants to have coffee with someone that has few topics of conversation apart from their injuries?!!! I've done so little in the last few years, I must be quite boringthe_priest wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 8:13 pm @Noggin I think that you have been incredibly brave and have coped with what would have seriously messed up quite a few rufty tufty biker peoples.
