derek badger wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 2:32 pm Not today, but last night. Started assembling a clothes airer the wife bought. Metal poles and plastic fittings. Quite tight tolerances to get the poles to seat home so ended up whacking them in with the palm of my hand. Didn't notice the top section wasn't a blind hole and the pole shit through and into my index finger slicing a 10mm wide hole about 4mm deep in to it. I could see the fat layer so flapped the skin back over stuck a steri strip on and it and bandaged it up.

Not as much blood as I expected and it was late in the evening so I decided not to bother with A&E, took some paracetamol and Tramadol and went to bed. No seepage this morning and the pain isn't too bad so I'm just going to keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Took the dressing off to clean the wound and redress it.

Nice gash, gonna have a knarley scar.

My mate laughed and put the image in ChatGPT...

I’d have stitched that. NHS would have done it cheaper, but they’d still have stitched it….(IMO). It’s your hand, and hands are…ummm… handy things.
I know, but on a Sunday 9:00pm, A&E was the last place I wanted to go. There was little meat in the flappy bit to get a stitch into. Steristrips have worked well though.

Have they? The wound is wide open…. Steristrips are supposed to keep the wound closed, but they don’t work well around joints like that where there’s movement/tension. Superglue would have done a better job. A & E might even have done that, but DIY’s fine.

TBF, I've had cuts that look like that (the post steri strips pic) and they've healed fine. But then, I rarely sought medical help for cuts

Vocations Advisor meeting with a fellow clergy. Another thing I do.

Home to cook lunch for the daughter. Then did a lot of admin work. no sermon for Sunday, but I do have two Baptisms, one an adult who has turned from addiction to faith in Christ.

I've been doing a lot of work on the new "display" screen that I have up in the church hall, it gives the community an insight into what is happening at with all the events, and it also shows a weather app, church info and so on. Rather fun it is and I really hope, useful! Sometimes innovation is helpful.

I've been working on a grant for an induction loop, microphones, Bluetooth amp and wall column speakers for the church hall as well, so that it can be used for effectively for meetings and parties! The more we make on these events the better as we have emptied £52,000 out of the church account on repairs and refurbishment on the hall and our church porch (Grade 1 13th Century means expensive!) This took them around 20 years to save up! Gone in minutes of tough decisions! The work has to happen.

Now to get ready to tomorrow with two visits to the local nursery school for Harvest stories (me fully robed) and taking someone Holy Communion and saying prayers for her deceased husband, then an afternoon meeting with the local curate to help him with school ministry. Someone got to do it.

Oh, and opened a superb bottle of Western Cape Pinotage. So nice, the wife asked for more!

We're not exactly sure, some sort of terrier mix. Six pups were removed from some cunt who was going to dump them in the desert & fostered with a family about 3 miles away. These two got a check up at the vet this afternoon, black one is 3.6lb, his sister is 4.5lb.
We put them in a crate for the car trip to the vet & they just laid down & dozed off immediately.

Dump them?? Fucking hate them kind of cunts. Sad to say when i was a kid we lived in Granton, Edinburgh. Local harbour got a few sacks of pups and kittens. Later found out a few from my cousins and uncles.

Took the towbar off my car. Now got to buy a new one for the new car I bought on Saturday. Anyone want a towbar for an F32 BMW?
I’m now stiff as hell from all the bending but Anglian water have decided to find a leak somewhere so the water is off so can’t have a soak in the bath!
Mick.

Just had my first argument in Spanish with two blokes who thought they were good to jump in front of half a dozen people in the checkout queue at the supermarket. After a bit off shouting they went to the back.

Road trip to Bla Bheinn and Elgol today. Note to self, don’t ever bother to try walking any distance on the access path for forestry vehicles made from old logs.

Epic views and scenery.

Shaved off the partially grown beard I'd decided to grow for winter. Some folk suit beards, but i just look like a garrity old tramp, so off it came. Now i look like a clean shaven garrity old tramp! :? :D

I've not had a proper shave since i got married 8 years ago. If I dare trim too close now I get told I'm a jowly old man 👴

I rock the tramp look

Coffee and breakfast (last of the crunchy peanut butter    ) in the sun this morning :) :)

Then, sorting stuff, washing (2 loads), loaded the dishwasher so I have a load of clean and dry (due to the sun!!) clothes and all the crockery is clean again !! AND due to the sorting I even have space on the dining table now - might get the sewing machine out tomorrow :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Finally got sorted to do ironing, needed to make a bit of space and find where I'd put the iron and also track down an extension lead !! This was for clothes I washed early in the week :(. Yes, I had been putting it off - haven't had an ironing board for almost 15 years and barely iorned anything cos no space !!!

Kinda cool to have a wardrobe full of pressed clothes!! (Well, not full, I have to iron today's washing tomorrow !!)

Now sat in my new to me armchair with some Terrys Chocolate orange bits and a mint version whole :angelic-green: Also got a glass of rum on the table ready to sip through Strictly !!! :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Took delivery of a third and final sofa for the lounge, I just need to get the room decorated and the alcove cupboards built.

Daughter 1 arrived with her dog, currently asleep on the sofa next to me while I’m getting shitty looks from my dog from another sofa, we’re in the basement rather than lounging on the new sofas. I’m doggy day care for a week while daughter suns herself in Turkey for a week. As soon as she’s back she’s off to San Francisco for 4 days on a work junket, jammy sod!

Sanded, scribed and fitted some skirting board, removed some architrave that’d been used as picture rail and replaced it with actual picture rail, I just need to find some pictures I like to hang from the rail.

Ordered a kebab, looks like it will feed me for three meals unless the hounds manage to steal some… :D
