I'm sure there are systems. Maybe nowadays they are more secure as they are probably computer, not human. There would have been human systems 35 years ago but often in work environments, people cut corners or don't follow the systems

There is now, I remember reading about it.
I think they did the Captain, First Mate and the Boatswain, and the company for not having proper safety checks.

I think now it's alarmed and on video.

They did indeed and it was regarded as something of a first that they did the company. Traditionally it was always the Ship's Master/Captain and down that were blamed for any incident. (There was an article on this in a recent copy of 'Sea Breezes' and they were particularly positive about this aspect, recognising that companies may pressurise crews, fail to maintain and fail to train and should not be able to dodge and dump all blame in crew).

IIRC they took RoRo ferries to the Falklands, carrying military vehicles. But before sailing, they had bulkheads/baffles fitted inside to reduce the likelihood of them capsizing should water have got into the load area.

That was 1982.

The Norland, usually travelling between Hull and Rotterdam, was one that went to the Falklands, including the entertainment crew. The cruise ship SS Canberra was also there.
