I'd never treat my cats with chemo or stuff like that, which I know some people do. The cat has no idea WTF is going on, from it's POV it feels shitty and you're just giving it shitty drugs to prolong the shittiness. It's cruel IMO.

For cases of, ahem, the galloping shits though reaching for the shotgun isn't my first instinct.

The dog is showing all signs of parvovirus, and there isn't fook all a vet can do for that, other than keep it hydrated by drip. Trouble with frenchies are they are very needy and clingy, especially our one. So I think we can do as much for her, as a vet can, but with the added bonus she wont get separation anxiety.So we've agreed to ride it out and hope she pulls through. For me I think she will, as I see signs of her strength returning.

Isn’t the dog vaccinated against parvo? Including boosters? It’s a very effective vaccine, and parvo is a very severe illness, very quickly - you wouldn’t have a dog that was just a bit off colour, you’d have a dog that was trying to die in front of you. It doesn’t sound like that what’s happening. I suspect it’s just got a tummy upset - very common and usually self-limiting with a bland diet for a few days, just like us.

She initially had the shits. We woke up to a lounge full of pools of shit and frothy water puke. We thought she was over it and went to work as normal. But when my wife got home, she found the dog puking blood and firing bloody water out of her arse like it was a hosepipe. My wife rushed her to the vets and was prescribed 3 types of drugs, protezin pro kolin, omeprazole and metrobactin (sp?).

The dog is a typical Frenchie with very strong separation anxiety which we've had to work through to get her to be left without being destructive. As she is (fortunately) drinking water, but wont eat, we took the decision to keep her at home as she is hydrating, otherwise she would ineed have had to go to the vets to be put on a drip. But, so far, so good, and it seems to be working other than getting the meds in. Yes she is vaccinated with her boosters.

@Taipan …the important thing there is that she’s able to drink without vomiting. That’s crucial - small amounts, frequent intervals. Did they give you any electrolytes to add to her water? (Dioralyte or similar?)

No my wife didn't bring any home, but she was hysterical when she went in and was ushered into a room with the dog and doesn't remember a lot of what the vet said!

Pleased to say the dog has eaten some chicken this morning, but spat out the small hidden pieces of tablet.

I’m a throw it down the throat type of pill dispenser, even with the cats, sometimes it takes a couple of attempts.

We mix the powder with strawberry yogurt in a syringe. Goes down no problem.

Flat bottomed whisky glass works just as well, well it does on paracetamol and I assume doggie drugs are so dissimilar.

I bought a Safe+Sound pill cutter (for splitting a dose for am and pm). The other end is a pill crusher. £2.19 on Amazon.

Parking brake motor cable.

Worked fine at a standstill, but threw an error first time you went over a bump, was then fine on restart... until you went over a bump.

Lots of cable had to be stripped... after testing both motors.

I don't have a lift so my knees have taken a hammering.

Good chunk of the garage work surfaces cleared, castors added to the jointer and a sweep up, all under the watchful eye of the dog who spent the time lying in his crate in the boot of the car. He was a bit miffed when I told him that we weren’t going anywhere…

Did the grocery shopping then collected one of the daughters for a roof down trip to the ice cream parlour which was surprisingly quiet given the glorious sunshine. I suspect they are being hampered by the hoardings and scaffolding surrounding their premises.

Bank home, picked up the dog and took him to the park with a tennis ball and flicker. He’s now curled up on the floor with a grin on his mush.

After the recent events with our dog, and his ability to find and reject tablets and even refuse food with crushed tablets in it , we discovered pate was the trick. Shove a tablet or two in a teaspoon of Sainsbury's cheapest pate and it doesn't even touch the sides
