The Oak was looking rather frail when I saw it a couple of years ago. Sherwood Forest was a bit underwhelming too. Maybe because we have lots of forest walks here and maybe because it's an iconic childhood name,so I expected something more dramatic.

Yeah, there's not much forest and the Major Oak is mainly props and other supports. When I was a kid you could actually get inside it and there was no visitor centre, or barrier around it etc.

Used to spend Sunday pm there watching Edwinstowe cricket team. It's all gone a bit tourist attraction....but the hotels haven't caught up.

Not far away was a 'Tanks Crossing' sign at the side of the road as the Sherwood Foresters used to have a training area. Got to clamber inside tanks and stuff on some weekends.

Got a message from my Daughter who is on a city break in Stockholm where its snowing!

So far, today has been a day of chores:

Rear lawn, strimmed the edges and went over it twice, at different heights, with the mower. The ground underneath is much more uneven than I recall, so I’ll take a look at getting some screened topsoil and sand so I can top dress it and hopefully get it flat.

Took both cars to the hand wash place and whilst sat there checked when they need servicing, 5 series, 7000 miles, SLC, 74 days. Whilst doing that I thought the MOT must need doing on the SLC, yep, it was due on 14/02/25, so booked that in online for tomorrow

I thought I’d better swap cars before getting pulled by the police, then headed to the barbers for the full shebang, hair cut, wet shave, hot towel and nose hair waxing which smarted a touch! The joys of getting old(er). The barber asked how I was doing, usual patter, but I was able to say I was doing great, weather is good, new job is working out nicely, and I’ve got a mate’s wedding to attend on Friday, which will no doubt be a boozy affair Hopefully the SLC will pass its MOT * so I can arrive with the roof down.

Once home, loaded up the dog crate as Hugo is off on his travels tomorrow evening as I’ve got some training to attend in Chester on Tuesday & Wednesday. So I’ll drop him off at the daughter’s after work tomorrow.

Hedges and lawn at the front will need to wait until the garden waste bin has been emptied. I need to return the new hedge trimmer (when it finally arrives) as the battery format isn’t compatible with my other batteries. Yes, Metabo is now owned by Hikoki, but Hikoki batteries are only compatible with Hikoki and Metabo HPT devices and not Metabo. I can’t be arsed with yet another battery format, I’m already running Ryobi and Hikoki, so it’ll either be a Ryobi as Hikoki doesn’t offer an 18v solution or a petrol one.

I’m researching that while watching the snooker final.

* I can see why not, there were no advisories last year and it has done less than 5000 miles in the last 13 month and less than 48,000 miles since it was registered in late 2017.

After all the work on the new patio area and garden, the pool had accrued an awful lot of shite. Two runs with the robot and its looking cleaner.
Shifted another load of topsoil to repair the lawn where builders had killed it and seeded, them the house boss (wife) decides we need to visit a local plant outlet and buy half their stock so off home to spend several hours planting.
Lawns mowed and then watered seeded areas again, now a few bottles of Rose in and starting on the rum and coke

Today I have not enjoyed my job.

Picked up in La Rosière (bloody hope I don't get that one with snow on the road - without snow it's a fair challenge!!!), all good, no issues - mostly cos no snow!!

Dropped off at Grenoble airport on time etc. Turned off ignition and took out keys and went for coffee. Back to bus and sat and read (no need for ignition)

As passengers started to come out of the building, I went to start the bus so that I could get the cooling bit started - not starting.


Tried and checked what I know (very little, only the third time I've driven this with passengers) with no result - called a colleague, he was driving so said he'd call back; called boss who basically said, you sort it out as I'm not there, then sent a text saying "update me when it's started, don't send loads of texts"; then proceeded to send me a load of texts with suggestions!!

Asked another driver if she could help - "I know this model really well, no worries - didn't work"

She asked a couple of other to look and then my colleague phoned me back (whilst sat in the same parking as my OH so he was online too) so I handed the phone to her and they talked - nothing worked

Another colleague phoned me - tried her suggestion, nope


Ended up with all the passengers squeezed onto another bus going to Tignes and at the last minute my boss told me to get on there as well

So the other driver dropped me near the depot and I walked down to get my car - I'd realised on the way back that I've left my prescription sunglasses on the bus along with my coldbag (and thermos!!), the case for my ear bud thingies, a bottle of fizzy drink and my cardi : FFS

Had to leave the keys with the bus for the boss who is going out tonight or tomorrow with a battery pack to get it started - but the battery is only three days old and at 25%; not great for a new one but it should have started (apparently). But you can sodding well guarantee that he'll arrive and turn the key and it'll start first bastarding time


So, along with shit comms from the girl in the office, hurty shoulder that is a pretty bad day - I need an office job and/or a really big lotto win (failing that, a weekend away with the OH involving sun, sea and rum )

You must have been there a couple of year now? Sounds like you're turning the place round now?

Today, I fitted huge LED indicator/running lights to my FJR1300 after spending ages looking for somewhere to tap into for a switched permanent live for the running lights. I then ordered a new LED flasher relay and a pair of LED indicator bulbs for the rear. I then also fitted a new billet fork brace, which you could easily miss if you werent looking for it. Some fresh fuel will see it then ready for an MOT.

Not today, but this past Friday I got to drive across that there London Bridge at Lake Havasu...

Guess what..?

Met up with the two former FWB's, I need to stop fooling around with 40yo's at my age.

You must have been there a couple of year now? Sounds like you're turning the place round now?

2.5 years! Both front doors being replaced later this month, a bit of rendering on the front of the house and then the driveway to be re-laid. Other than a few bits of decorating internally, will be finally done!

Never in a million years. Owning a house is a never-ending cycle of maintenance, cleaning, redesigning, decorating, minor repairs.

I'm looking forward to moving into a care home and not giving a shit*.

Today I paid £2.50 to use the Blackwall Tunnel.

Debating whether to change route and go over Tower Bridge from now on.

I apologise for this but I am a day early. Today for me is like being a small child on Christmas eve. Tomorrow, the owner of a special little workshop has invited me over for a cuppa and to explore his workshop which has things such as an English wheel, bead rollers and goodness knows what else.
The owner is a life long bike builder (who I first met about 35-40 years ago) and has a huge amount of skills. Thinking about it, this to me is more exciting than being a kid at Christmas.

I will be going to bed at 7.00pm tonight just so that it might bring tomorrow morning around a bit quicker! It is going to be a long day today.

I've got a couple of weddings in the summer and thought I'd treat myself to a new suit. Wanted something light, both in colour and fabric. Went into my local Slaters (not sure if you know them, but they are a bit 'old school service', sell and hire suits https://www.slaters.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmB ... tB9AwWD6Wt). Chanced upon a sort of 'oatmeal' colour linen whistle, tried it on, liked it, send Mrs. G a photo, got the thumbs up, bought it.

Showed my mate the photo . He looked, chuckled and them commented that he now knew what had happened to the Man from Del Monte.

The more I look at the photo the more I can see it now. Anyone got a white Panama hat I can borrow for the weddings?

Drove home and arrived safely.

Stopped at a couple of M1 services for slash/coffee. Mon Dieu, what depressing places they are. Got me pining for French roads and facilities.

On the + side the weather has been 🌤 but with a cold wind in the East Mids. It's near perfect back here.

Major + I am now sat with a decent cuppa which even makes the stock market less depressing.

Walked dogs, mowed lawn, cleaned motorbike after we did 650miles in the last 2.5 days seeing my poorly Dad in Barnstaple hospital, hopefully he's on the mend but he gave us quite a scare and my sit bones may take a while to forgive him as that the most miles I've done on a motorbike in such a short space of time in probably 3 decades.....now awaiting letters of achievement from the various constabularies I passed through.

Now on the sofa recovering as beer chills in the fridge.

Dropped car off for MOT at 8.30, booked in for 12pm but I was busy then, checked online at 10.30am, all done, pass with no advisories

Looked at European stock markets, meh, just looked at US, more meh, but it’ll come back at some point.

Met up with some mates for lunch, sat outside, on banks of the Tees in the sunshine, the two gingers had to keep changing seats to minimise their exposure to the sun, roof down both ways

My old boss couldn't pronounce 'derivative', which was unfortunately as it was what we traded quite a few of.

I can hear him now saying 'derirative'.

Finally made a decision and decided we're not going to Spain with the camper this year, we're going to the other place that doesn't like tourists, Cornwall, instead!
