Something I forgot from the driving of big coaches yesterday. It's about the line assist type things!

So, normally the steering wheel vibrates/rattles or it tries to pull you back on course (well, the course the black box thinks you should be on!)


On both coaches its a bit different. When you start the engine, the whole driver seat vibrates briefly!! That was a surprise.

The biggest surprise was - if you get close to the line on either side, that side of the driver seat vibrates!!!!

Made me laugh a lot, luckily when it vibed I knew I was close and had put the bus there, but it did make me laugh a lot - to the amusement of my colleague that was assessing my driving!! LOL

Funny what makes us laugh, huh?!!

They made a thing of it being the first independently produced supersonic passenger jet. Err, not yet it's not. It's a 1/3 scale version with 1 crew/pilot seat.

Neat looking thing though.

TBF, I do see why they don't put the same system in normal cars! But basically the vibration isn't really in the right place, and I'm not sure I'd mess about like that whilst driving a 57 seater coach (Even I can be sensible!! )

Apparently they've cracked it. Usually when something is hauling ass down the supersonic corridor we get booms that vary from window rattlers to house shakers that will slam doors shut & set off car alarms. Didn't feel or hear anything at all this morning.

IIRC size affects the boom considerably, climbing while transonic reduces it, while diving tend to focus the effect quite nicely at the ground.

They dived a Lightning towards Bristol at mega speed just to see what happened. It was LOUD with quite a few windows broken (or at least claimed for).

1/3 scale, 68ft long with a 17ft wingspan, weighs about 6ton.
Where I lived in Cornwall we could hear the boom from the BA birds going out over the Bristol Channel & the French ones going down the English Channel.

We have two small cracks in windows thanks to Edwards AFB, one in the main bedroom & another in the front door.

A long story short-ish. M-i-L has been having pains in her side.Its hard to know whats going on as she has advanced dementia and doesnt really describe things well. Anyway, off to Docs who declares it gastric, possibly her old ulcer flariung up again and prescribes lanzarprole and requests a scan which comes through for the 10th of February!

A week later and she is in quite bad pain one evening, so my wife goes round and rings 111 and we end up with an Ambo taking her to hospital who also agree it gastric and after some injection or another (?) is sent home.

FF to tuesday and f-i-l rings and says m-i-l is in a lot of pain again, so the wife and I go round and m-i-l is clearly distresdd at the pain she is in, so we we ring Docs who send out district nurse who declares her vitals fine but can't explain the pain and says to wait for the scan. We say but thats over 2 weeks, but there is nothing she can do about it.

I hit the phones and get a private scan for that afternoon. Scan Man says its pancreas and liver cancer. Its clearly not his first rodeo in this, but I have ask if hes sure, and sadly he's very sure but says the mri/ct scan will be needed for 100% confirmation and to go straight to Docs with scan results to get it arranged, which we have. Shes now on dihydrocodeine and away with the fairies or moaning in pain. I just hope the end comes quickly for her. Grim.

Sounds very familiar - my M-i-L had the same three years back ish. Crippling back pain for a couple of months, finally hospitalised and got a liver cancer diagnosis, home with uber-painkillers (Oxytocin via syringe driver).
She was gone 6.5 weeks later. All the best mate.

Sorry to hear this. It's cold comfort, but just like my Mum, she's not aware of the full situation and I just hope she can go comfortable and as pain free as possible.
