........and actually believe that they are for the good of all UK Citizens ( and not for the perverse self perpetuating establishment of the C of E ) then you are a Monarchist of the first Order .
I am NOT having a go at " Christianity " but the " Church " seems to have moved a long way from the simple preaching of a humble Jewish " Prophet "
Maybe you should try to understood the history behind it to see why it is like that.
There was a bit of previous aggravation (particularly in the 17th century) that supplied a lot of the basis for where this stuff is today.
If you want to learn then you could read about the 1600's when the Puritans, Calvinists, Bishops, various religious factions, Parliament, the Yeomanry, the gentry, the Lords and the monarchy were all trying to get their own way, it was a turbulent time, certainly a lot worse than it had been a hundred years or so previously, and so things were put in place to make sure afterwards that it was more stable - and largely it was.
Doesn't quite explain why it's like that now though.
PS Why can't anyone spell 'Mordaunt'?
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

I'm not convinced it is to the good of the CofE, or that any church or faith group having a leader that may well not believe in accordance with it is to its good.
Potter , you really ought to understand that everybody IS entitled to their point of view , and it's just possible that I know every bit of that part of English history as well as you . I realise that will come as a terrible shock to you . Why don't you simply try and make your points without trying to belittle /patronise every body who you may not agree with .......tia .
The fact that anything has been going on for a " thousand years " certainly makes it interesting from an historical point of view . It's quite likely that it means that it's simply not valid or appropriate today .

Funny @Treadeager I don't see that at all in the above comment from @Potter . To me it looks like a slightly ironic, wry observation.
Tradition doesn't just mean doing things for the sake of it. It means carrying on doing them because they are prove to work.
I might not like the monarchy and I might not like Christianity but I do like what it's done for the place...
So " Matey doesn't understand " then being called ignorant is not just another manifestation of Potter's over active ego ?
I'll say it again . I have absolutely no problem with Potters POV . I just wish he could engage in a conversation without feeling the need to talk to people as if they were something he found stuck to the bottom of his shoe !

I haven't followed the entire thread, just saw an innocuous comment and the reaction to it. I'll have a look I suppose.
But I am the very last person to comment on one's ability to communicate. It is difficult to put yourselves in someone else shoes to know where to start explaining an opinion or observation. Sometimes things are so obvious and clear that you might assume the other party must know them so leave it out of your chain of logic.
Then when challenged you realise they haven't fully grasped a certain situation.
Ignorance is just a word you know. it just means exactly what it says on the tin. I am as guilty of it as the next man and when the situation calls for it, sometime the best word for the job. I have learned people react to the logical observation of their argument often with some hostility.
